Another elegantly crafted cigar presentation cabinet – not a humidor (no moisturizing element inside) this is the cabinet at table or desk in den, and holds up to 50 cigars. A slightly smaller version than the last several we’ve offered, this cigar cabinet is 9″ x 7 5/8″ and 8 1/2 tall when closed. Raised just a bit on lathe-turned wooden feet, accented with brass boulle cartouche and stringing, canted corners – it’s a beauty! Still has its working lock and key, too (rare). Very good to excellent condition for age and type, it is not pristine, however. As with almost all of these old ones (150 + years now), it has some signs of age. While it has all 5 original trays, and they all have their original knobs, I can see that one tray has broken and been repaired. This is a quite common occurrence, owing to the way they’re grooved for the cigars. I’ve marked it with an “x”. There is a little roughness to top left cover/top – like 3 lines on the old wood, slight age shrinkage from look of it. On opposite side of lid, from top view, you can see a spot which could use some ebony filler. The old hardwood veneers are beautiful, elegantly contrasted and the pencil edging up top, wood corner-round, rather than brass edging is just beautiful. The old braced hinge and lock are each upper-grade hardware. The anchor/brace keeps the lid from tipping too far back when opened. It’s beautiful in use. These never last long in our shop. Fine Large Antique French Napoleon III Era Cigar Chest, Box, Presenter, FENOUX, Palais Royal. All items and photos are the express property of Antiques & Uncommon Treasure. A large 11 1/2 wide cigar cabinet, chest, presentation box from the Palais Royal maker, FINOUX, as noted in engraved lock plate. An exquisitely fashioned and crafted chest, opulent burled wood with serpentine front and a boulle inlaid cartouche. The hinged front and top rise and fold back, superior hardware holds the lid in open display and reveals a drawer and 2 cigar shelves. There would have once been 4 cigar shelves, but time has taken a toll. Still, beautiful open or closed, and will house 2 dozen larger cigars on the sliding shelves, and more in the drawer below. Full measurements are noted on the photos. Very good to excellent condition, age and type considered, but slightly less than perfect. As you can see, there remain 2 of the original sliding cigar shelves, and like many of these, there has been a restoration to each. Sturdy and smooth-sliding on wood rails, they’re underscored by a nicely finished drawer. Knobs on each are there, but abbreviated from original. Additionally, as we’ve pointed out on photos, the darkened wood trim on the back corner of one side has gone missing. That’s a simple one to replace, and I’ll ask Rick to do so, though at listing it is still in need of that small restoration, price in consideration. Larger than most chests, and of finest quality, this would have come from the FINOUX boutique, Palais Royal, as noted on the lock plate. Just enough to make it extra appealing – you know they paint those onto reproduction chests just for the effect. No pithiness, confined to a few tiny dots. The burled veneer is gorgeous! I find only one tiny loss of veneer, and it’s at the tip edge of back, right, less than 1/4 total, not much issue with all the beauty surrounding it. Boulle cartouche has no lifts, is beautifully crafted and entirely intact, as well as monogrammed. Heirloom quality from c. 1850-70, Napoleon III era, mid-Victorian era. Elegant antique French Napoleon III or Victorian era Palais Royal marked 11 wide humidor style casket, an ebony or ebonized walnut & brass inlay box with ornate boulle style cartouche, original fitted interior with four sliding trays & accoutrement drawer and working lock with key! As Napoleon III in style as they come, the exterior is veneered in what is most likely rosewood or walnut with a jet black ebonized finish, brass strip or sting inlays on the front and thicker brass edging top and base. Unlock it with a working old skeleton key and inside are four sliding trays, each with twelve 4 3/4 grooves to hold a total of 48 cigars and a drawer below. The inner lock plate engraved with the maker and reads “Fenoux 120 Palais Royal”. An elegant old French box and a simply fabulous decorative accent, whether or not you’re a tobacciana enthusiast. There is a slight bit of’lifting’ to the brass strip inlay in the rear left corner of the lid but no losses. As noted, the interior has all of the original trays and drawer, complete with turned pulls, but three of the trays arrived to us from France with splits in the center area and have been glued & clamped back together. They slide in and out on the side rails but can come off the rails if pulled to the side. The bottom tray pull or knob has some chipping and loss. There is also just a bit of wear to the ebony finish visible in a spot or two, at the curved corners. Working lock & key, as noted. See pictures for all measurements. We’re easy to deal with. 19th Century French Twelve-Cigar Holder Box with Brass Mounts and Music Box circa 1860. Elegant antique rosewood box from France, circa 1870; the twelve cigars holder features a rotating top finial with open and close mechanism where music can be heard. The outside of all six doors features brass mounts with music instruments including a lyre, horn and flute, and the base has two rows of brass beads. Inside each door, there are brass mounts which can hold up to three cigars. The music box is activated with a key under the bottom. Excellent condition with rich patina. Measures: 8″ dia x 12″ H. Key for the music box winder is missing, however the music mechanism (Swiss made) is still working fine. There are some brass cigar mounts missing see photos please. Antique French Cigar Chest, Presentation Box, Fitted Shelves, Napoleon III, Victorian. All items and photos are the express property of Antiques & Uncommon Treasure. Gorgeous cigar tantalus from Napoleon III era c. 1850-70 or mid-Victorian era. This French made chest is fitted with cigar-mount pull-out shelves enough to hold 36 full-sized cigars. Beautifully crafted, but not in pristine condition at this time, it’s a bargain and really does present nicely in spite of a few flaws. I’ve marked those with “x” on our photos for your review. The photographer shows it with 2 keys inside, but just one will fit and only one key will be sent out with the box. The top and front both hinge up and down to open for use. Measurements noted on the photos. Good condition for age and type. The box has a beautiful boulle worked brass and mother of pearl cartouche, set in accents of black and brown woods. An engraved monogram that looks to me to be “T S” in set therein. The burl walnut veneer is accented by 2 other wood grain veneers on the top of the box, and accented by contrasting stringing. A pencil-edging in wood finished the edging beautifully to that slightly convex lid. There is a little disruption around the escutcheon (key hole) as visible in our images, and there is a section of missing veneer on bottom of one side – marked for your review. Slight imperfections otherwise, signs of age, noted in the photos. There are 3 shelves that have a hairline, or break. All function fine as you see them. This is not a pristine example, but priced accordingly. There is an engraved signature on the lockplate, but I can’t read it. Overall, even with a few flaws, a really beautiful old treasure! Rare 19th Century French Antique Napoleon III Music Box Humidor. This marvelous piece intrigues and delights. Made of black lacquered wood with a beautiful red-tinted patina on the doors. Hexagon in shape, the humidor opens by 6 doors. Each door is adorned on the outside with a lyre. The inside of each door displays floral motif mounts with three rings and a lower plate to hold cigars. The humidor sits atop an undulating base decorated with two studded garlands. Garlands also adorn the top of the humidor and the knob that was once used to open the doors (now only one door opens using the knob, the others must be opened manually). A lever on the side of the base starts and stops the music. The music box is wound using a keyhole found on the bottom of the base. The music box functions and the original key is included. The music itself is quite charming. We can send an audio file of the song on request. The humidor is in good antique condition. Only one door opens with the mechanism, the other doors open manually. One door is missing the cigar-holding rings on the inside. There are a couple of cracks in the base, some nicks and scuffs, and some damage to top wood panel. Dimensions: Height: 10.5 in (27 cm); Diameter (top): 6 in (15 cm); Diameter (base): 7 in (18 cm). We thus guarantee you will incur no surprise import charges from U. Absolutely fabulous antique French Napoleon III era 10 cigar chest, tantalus or presenter box with jet black ebony or ebonized finish & ornate two-tone metal appliqués or accents including front medallions with horseshoe framed busts of horse and hunting dog or hound! A simply marvelous piece, one of the more visually overwhelming with all of the pressed brass or ormolu appliqués and with the equestrian AND hunting motifs covered with those lovely front medallions! Not an actual humidor by function, the lid and front panels open up completely, tantalus style, to the sliding trays inside. Each tray with ten grooves to hold 3 7/8 long cigars or cheroots. A stunning decorative box, don’t miss it! Very good condition, age considered. The pictures are large and clear so look closely. There are a few flaws to note, the most obvious are the two small missing sections of reticulated trim along the canted back of the lid. There is also a small section of the base molding on the left side that has either split and been re-glued or replaced at some point. The inner cigar trays or drawers are all original but, due to age shrinkage of the overall panels, didn’t slide consistently on the box’s side rails so we added small black wood strips under the sides so they would stay on the rails. The lock works just fine and includes what appears to be the original old skeleton key. See pictures for all measurements. We’re easy to deal with. You are very important! Elegant antique French Napoleon III or Victorian era 10 1/8″ wide humidor style casket, a rosewood or walnut & brass inlay box with inlaid’Cigares & Tabac”, original fitted interior and working lock with key! As Napoleon III in style as they come, the exterior is veneered in rosewood or walnut with a faintly visible ebonized finish, brass strip or sting inlays on the front and lid and “Cigares & Tabac” (Cigars & Tobacco) brass inlay in the top center. Unlock it with a working old skeleton key and inside it is divided into two tin foil lined compartments. The left side simply with a lid as you would see with a tea caddy, the right side with a rosewood panel cut with holes to hold cigars in an upright position. Not actually a humidor as there is no moisture source but the foil lining would have served to preserve the moisture level of the tobacco until used.
