Measures about 5 1/2″ by 4 1/2″ and stands 1 1/4 tall. Minor age flaws but overall wonderful condition (see pics). This is a fine early French cigar humidor box adorned with carved and decorated abalone shell throughout. The box itself is constructed of Birdseye or Curly Maple over white pine – the escutcheon plate is a hand- cut piece of shell – top is adorned with shells of carved flowers and leaves with the outer edges of entire box being adorned with small diamonds of shell inlay. All inlay is complete and the interior still retains its original silver foil liner. Box is hand made and is not a commercially produced box. I would date it to the last quarter of the 19th century, to possibly the first few decades of the 20th century. A nice overall humidor for those who collect – box measures 10 1/4″ by 6″ inches and stands 3 3/4 inches high. This is an antique cedar humidor with a black lacquered finish and inlaid abalone and mother of pearl design. It features 4 doors that open to reveal cigar holder compartments. Each door has space for 6 cigars. There is also a drawer that opens at the bottom for additional storage. A very unique and unusual piece. Age and origin are unknown but appear to be English circa late 1800s, Victorian period based on other boxes with similar design. Would likely be best as a decorative piece for a collector as the doors do not close properly. Could also be repurposed to use as storage for other items or home decor. Condition: Excellent antique condition, wear commensurate with age and use. Doors do not close properly, wood has warped over time and it is off kilter. Abalone/Mother of pearl is largely intact.
