Outstanding Terracotta Pug Dog withPuppies Small Tobacco Humidor/Box Antique
The lovely mother Pug is very animated chewing on a bone on top of the lid with another bone on the ground. The entire piece is made of antique terracotta made to look like a wood doghouse. The three adorable puppies have the cutest expressions and are drinking out of a trough. Measurements are 4 inches tall by 2 3/4 inches deep by 3 1/4 inches wide. It is marked “DEPOSE” in impressed letters on the lid underside which is French for hand made so it is of French origin. There is paint wear mostly on the back of the mother which is commensurate with use as this is where your hand touches to remove the cover. The puppy on the left is missing its tail and there are two chips. One on the underside of the lid which doesn’t show on display and the second on the back edge. Please see all photos. The detail is amazing and I would date this to to around 1900 or older.
