Antique German Black Forest Wood Carved ANTLER HUMIDOR BOX Stag Rosette Hunt Dog Relief Key c1880. It is German, carved from wood to look like tree bark, and decorated with roebuck stag antler. 3 antler rosettes, one carved in relief showing a hunting dog. Inside shows a divided compartment. Dating to circa 1880. MEASURES: 9 7/8″ total height, 5 1/2″ to top of box, 11 1/2″ total width, 7 1/8″ deep. Good used condition showing great patina. A nail shows at the back of the lid and we see two chips just in front of the hinges. Inspect all photos to complete condition detail. Or perhaps bonbons for the gentleman? I can’t affirm that it’s a cast bronze panel. I think it is a lighter metal, really, but it has the patina of bronze and is gorgeous. A wonderful idea for a Holiday gift! Very good to excellent condition for age and type, the old box top has not been dented nor damaged. The wood is nicely preserved and shows age and just the right amount of roughness. Dove-tailed joints on corners and a mitered corner for the top which frames the cast woodland scene well. Some scrapes on the bottom, consistent with age. There are supports on the interior sides which indicate there would have been a lift-out tray. That tray is no longer with the box.
