A great early 20th century mission style arts and crafts hammered copper cigar humidor or jewelry box with hinged lid and hand wroughtloop handles! Measuring 10 x 5 x 3, the humidor appears to have been converted into a velvet lined jewelry box sometime in the 20th century. Overall very good shape with hinged lid and nice hand wrought handles, One corner is split in the back, and the lid edge has a dent to the back, base may have been re-soldered. This cigar box was William Lewis Safire’s personal walnut cigar box. Safire was a speechwriter for US President Richard Nixon, an American author, columnist for the New York Times. Winner of 2006 United States Presidential Medal of Freedom and Board Member of the Pulitzer Prize. This item was acquired at the estate sale of the late author. The cigar box is in good condition and was produced by Decatur Industries and is a solid walnut cigar humidor box with the Authors name engraved on a gold metal plate on top of the box. This cigar box was owned by one of Nixon’s key speechwriters who helped shaped the course of American history with his speechwriting. Antique Wind Up Music Box 2 Airs 1882 Cigar Humidor Hinged Box Silver Decoration. Measures 6 1/2″ x 9 7/8″ and 5 1/2 high closed. It is a footed box which is rather unique – 2 ball feet in the front and 2 peg feet in the back, it sits nicely level. The top silver decoration Art Nouveau cigar leaf with word cigars looks like it might be sterling but I could not find a silver mark. The bottom base wood panel has a crack. The box is complete other than the key for the lock which we do not have. There is an old paper label on the bottom that I can read “2 airs” but not much else can be seen clearly. The wood finish and the magnificent silver top Cigars decoration have a nice aged patina. Please see my 12 photos. Guaranteed a genuine antique late 19th century musical humidor box.
