From an awesome New York City Gentleman’s estate, comes this fantastic Antique English “Stick & Ball” Victorian Carved Jewelry Box Chest / Humidor. It is made of multiple spindle carved elements intricately assembled and framed in on each side, a solid top and a wood liner. Double hinged lid on top. Box is in good condition overall, shows minor age / use wear (please see photos). It can be used as a jewelry chest or as a humidor, it is a large size at 12.75″ wide, 8.25″ deep, and 8 tall. Early Abalone Shell Inlaid French CIGAR (Cigares) Humidor Box Birdseye Maple
This is a fine early French cigar humidor box adorned with carved and decorated abalone shell throughout. The box itself is constructed of Birdseye or Curly Maple over white pine – the escutcheon plate is a hand- cut piece of shell – top is adorned with shells of carved flowers and leaves with the outer edges of entire box being adorned with small diamonds of shell inlay. All inlay is complete and the interior still retains its original silver foil liner. Box is hand made and is not a commercially produced box. I would date it to the last quarter of the 19th century, to possibly the first few decades of the 20th century. A nice overall humidor for those who collect – box measures 10 1/4″ by 6″ inches and stands 3 3/4 inches high. THIS IS AN AMERICAN CUT GLASS AND ENAMELED STERLING SILVER TOBACCO JAR CIGAR HUMIDOR MADE BY DURGIN AROUND 1895. THIS JAR HAS A CUT GLASS BODY WITH A STERLING LID THAT HAS AN APPLIED FIGURAL ENAMELED SCENE WITH A PIPE, LIT SMOKING CIGAR, MATCHES AND A MATCH STRIKER. I KNOW THIS PIECE IS DURGIN BECAUSE ABOUT 15 YEARS AGO I HAD ANOTHER ONE EXACTLY LIKE IT WITH A DIFFERENT ENAMELED SMOKING SCENE PLAQUE. THE STERLING LID ON THAT ONE HAD A MONOGRAM WITH A DATE OF 1895. IT IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH NO DAMAGE. THE STERLING LID HAS A SUBSTANTIAL WEIGHT OF 4.7 TROY OUNCES.
