Antique 19th Century Victorian Period. Tiger Oak & Brass Mount. A wonderful desk top cigar smokers cabinet constructed in the manner of a safe in beautifully grained Tiger Oak with ebony string highlights and English Royal crests to doors. Brass mounts and handles, the brass lock cover slides open to reveal a fully operational lock alas no key. The twin doors open to reveal a fully fitted interior again with brass mount handles consisting of four draws for cigar storage. The cabinet is in beautiful condition. Tiger oak is more expensive than normal oak as it is taken from better wood and cut at such an angle to produce the tiger stripe effect therefor being used on the finest quality furniture. Dimensions: 9 1/2″(24.1cm) wide by 9 1/2″ (24.1cm) high by 7(17.8cm) deep. Would make a wonderful gift. Oak 3-Compartment Cigarette / Cigar Box, Fitted Interior, c. 1900
Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for an attractive late 19th or early 20th Century oak cigarette/cigar box or humidor with three lift-top compartments with fitted interiors. The box is made of quarter-sawn oak with beveled top edges and a brass handle on center top. The box is called a humidor although it does not have an “hygrometer” inside to measure and maintain proper humidity and can only be used for normal storage. The box does have an unusual feature in the form of a brass striking plate on the inside lid of each side section used for lighting matches. The box has excellent brass hinges on each section that open and close correctly. There is a locking mechanism on the center section and when the side sections are closed first, the center section will lock each section closed. Box has a brass plaque attached on the back lower edge that reads Alexander Clark, Fenchurch St. Measures 5″ high, 12″ long and 8 deep. Weighs 4.3 pounds. This nice humidor box is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws. The original protective cover that would have been on the bottom of the box has been removed with evidence of cover remaining that we have not tried to remove. The key locking mechanism is intact and key is provided. The dog is brass with a gilded finish and glass eyes. The roof of the house is hinged and it opens and closes correctly. The wooden body is oak with a light finish and has ebonized (dark stained) wood trimmed corners, top and bottom edges and around key hole. Measures 5 3/8″ high (at sides of roof), 6 1/2″ high (to peak of roof), 9 1/2″ long (base platform) and 7″ wide (base platform). Weighs 2.5 pounds. This unusual cigar box is in very good to excellent Estate condition with no major flaws. There are a few minor signs of normal wear to the box including one area on the ebonized edge of the box (left side near front) where there is a minor section with wear to the varnish and a couple of faint streaks on the same side of roof where there is wear to the varnish, however, both areas are hardly noticed. There is also expected wear to the gilded finish on the dog. Have been in the Antiques business for over 30 years and try to describe our items as accurately as possible. Signed inside by celebrated VISHNYAKOV– awarded numerous gold Imperial medals. Retains original interior tin foil paper. Well loved– inside retains the lingering aroma of tobacco. Lid– hand painted– portraying Russian woman peasant and two Cossacks. One playing the accordion and one dancing– kicking up his heels. Rare to see Cossack dancing on Russian boxes– usually painted are Troika sleds. Wear commensurate with age and use. Thumping, bumps and wear on corners– see images. Crazing on painted lid, but painting itself is in very good condition. Hinges are strong and stable. Approx– 5 3/8″ by 3 3/8″ by 3 1/4 h. Hard to find early signed Box. Rare 19th Century Black Forest Wood Cigar Box Humidor With Angry Dog Kennel
A good looking master craftsman carved cigar box complete with the original key and very angry dog protecting the contents. The box comes complete with the original lock and key which work just fine. We have cleaned waxed and polished it from top to bottom, there will be normal age related patina marks all over. Height:- 19.5cm. Depth:- 23.5cm.
