A 19th century smoker’s caddy with huge and beautifully carved German Shepherd dog hinged to open for tobacco or cigar storage inside hollowed out pot. An angled server for matches and a brass cup for spent matches and ashes or cigar clippings. This one is superb! Yes, tip of one ear has been chipped ages ago, could be restored quite easily. No other flaws to note. Glass eyes bring him alive, don’t they? He’s chained, and rests one front foot above the squared off old log that comprises the 11 wide front piece, with a paw showing along bottom, too. Very good to excellent condition for age and type. That he’s got one nipped ear only is a bit of a miracle after so long a time. Obviously well cared for and cherished. The brass pot shows some old evidence of ash. He’s definitely served well. The interior of the tobacco compartment is clear, no residue, no odors. I’ve noted maximum depth on the photos, and that it is 8″ tall as it sits, and 11″ wide. Yes, some very old and inactive (treated) woodworm holes here or there. Nothing spongy or ruined about him. Just that Old European charm of age. You will LOVE this one! We’re easy to deal with. Rare Antique English Oak Novelty Carriage Cigar Box / Humidor Reg. 1904

Rarely found or even seen, this novelty Edwardian cigar box is beautifully executed in solid oak in the form of a horse drawn carriage. The sides are inlaid to emulate the panelling and door, the window made from the original mirrored glass. To either side there are polished brass door handles and removable carriage lamps. The example would have been used to roll down the centre of a large dinner table to serve after dinner cigars; the wheels all in perfect working order. The top of the carriage opens to reveal a cedar lined interior to keep the cigars fresh; often referred to as a humidor, that is in fact a modern invention, it is the cedar lining that did this job over 100 years ago. At the back of the carriage is a locked drawer with working key, which once opened reveals a match compartment, match strike and tray for spent matches and another smaller cedar lined compartment. The drawer is lucky enough to have been stamped with an English design registration number which allows us to date it accurately to 1904, Edwardian in era. Restored & Repurposed Antique Solid Tiger Oak Cigar Humidor Fully Felt Lined

Fully restored and repurposed antique solid tiger oak cigar humidor lined royal blue felt. Blank engraving plate and working lock (no key). Takes an open square key not included. Outside bottom is covered in a dark green felt. Edges on lid are rounded over. Box measures 11 1/2″ long x 7 3/4″ deep x 4 5/8 tall. Inside is 10 1/2″ long x 6 7/8″ deep x approximately 4 tall. Constructed of 1/2 thick oak and uses a splined miter joint for strength and appearance. Box was cleaned and refinished with Min Wax Satin varnish and hand-polished with 0000 steel wool and paste-wax for a soft luster. 90º hinges hold lid open.
