Make a good offer and own this today! Growing up in the early 70’s, my friends would have called this a “stash box” and they wouldn’t have kept tobacco in it. But in 1910 it was undoubtedly used for tobacco. Created by the E F Caldwell Co of New York, this silver on bronze box is very heavy and we’ll constructed. Measures 4″ x 7″ x 2 tall. Lid holds a screened piece that contains a sponge to keep your stash from drying out! Fantastic old piece from one of the greatest bronze works in New York City. Antiques, Fine Art & Collectibles. Antique Sarreguemines Monkey Porcelain Humidor Cigar Holder French Majolica. DESCRIPTION Amusing Majolica monkey pianist tobacco jar made by Sarreguemines around 1880. Rarely found complete with his lid the chimpanzee wears pants, jacket and cravat. As he sits at the piano with his dour face there are music sheets strewn around by his feet and two books titled “opera” and themes. The stoneware cigar holder humidor is usually painted and was a factory blank. It is marked on the underside with the shape number of 231 only. This is a good example of anthromorphic art in porcelain and often called the “Music-loving Monkey” or “Monkey on the piano” by collectors. Stamped: 231 This would suit any vintage coffee table, porcelain collection. A great housewarming or early birthday gift idea. MEASUREMENTS Porcelain humidor measures 8″ tall by 5″ deep by 9 wide and weighs 3lb 10oz. CONDITION In good usable condition and ready to display. There is a large chip from lid at the top of the piano, another edge is chipped, a third edge has a crack in it and the vase on top is chipped. There is also a missing chip from the bottom edge near the foot and his tail is missing (please see all pictures as they form part of the condition description). Antique Victorian Box re purposed as a Cigar Humidor Circa 1880. Approx Size: 14″ x 9.25″ x 12. Great overall antique condition. Originally a writing slope, it has been re-purposed as cigar humidor and ceder wood lining has been added later to the interior. Original lock and key. There are two filters in the lid to regulate humidity, these will likely need new filters to function. Good large size and a good conversion. Monogram to the inlaid mother of pearl. Antique Continental Inlaid Wooden Box – Europe – 19th Century. Probably dating from the later part of the 19th Century, a beautifully inlaid wooden tobacco? Each of the 24 panels are a work of art, with detailed marquetry inlay, depicting scenes of rural life, including peasants making pasta. Separate lid is well fitting. There is a lock keyhole on the side (no key) and box is unlocked. Interior shows openings for cigarettes or cigars, with a central container that can be raised for holding loose tobacco? Interior of lid is lined with rich, blue velvet, apparently original to the piece. Old cracks, chips and losses throughout. Please examine photos carefully for condition. Some of the inlay has old damage and old repairs (see last three photos). A beautiful and interesting antique piece that would make a wonderful display piece! 9 Inches Tall 4.5 Inches Wide.
