Rarely found or even seen, this novelty Edwardian cigar box is beautifully executed in solid oak in the form of a horse drawn carriage. The sides are inlaid to emulate the panelling and door, the window made from the original mirrored glass. To either side there are polished brass door handles and removable carriage lamps. The example would have been used to roll down the centre of a large dinner table to serve after dinner cigars; the wheels all in perfect working order. The top of the carriage opens to reveal a cedar lined interior to keep the cigars fresh; often referred to as a humidor, that is in fact a modern invention, it is the cedar lining that did this job over 100 years ago. At the back of the carriage is a locked drawer with working key, which once opened reveals a match compartment, match strike and tray for spent matches and another smaller cedar lined compartment. The drawer is lucky enough to have been stamped with an English design registration number which allows us to date it accurately to 1904, Edwardian in era. 1928 RARE Rockwell Kent Sally Art Deco Cigar Box. The outside of the box is brass and the inside is lined with wood. The image on the front is attributed ti Rockwell Kent, a famous artist, print maker and writer, 1882 1971. The image depicts Sally (Sally Kent Gorton) his wife and widow. The image was designed in 1928 for an A. Spalding & Brothers magazine advertisement. Epicts Sally (Sally Kent Gorton) his wife and widow. There are very few of this particular box available. Rockwell Kent had the image etched in the lids of some brass boxes and gave them out as gifts to friends and business associates. This particular box has been well cared for. The inside of the is clean and in very good condition. The brass on the outside has developed a nice patina and has other signs of normal age. The lid is also still very well attached with a good working hinge. It is about 2 5/8 inches by 5.5 inches by 7 1/8 inches. The box is marked A. This case is in Good condition for its age. The case has white porcelain tiles. There are a couple of cracked tiles and a couple broken on the bottom (please see pictures). This is consistent with the age and use of the case. The case has a metal bracket. The door open and closes as it should. Up for sale is a rare antique ornate gilt brass figural humidor cigar store oil lighter display. It’s cast out of thick gilded brass with very elaborate detailing, is a heavy piece, and in the form of a cart. The humidor has a removable lid with an ashtray attached and nude fairy appliqués on each side done in high relief. It has ornate axeled wheels wheels that actually turn and an intricate oil lamp mounted two the back to light cigars. THE HOUSE HAS WONDERFUL BRASS DECORATIONS T HERE IS A SHARP BRASS CIGAR CUTTER IN THE FORM OF A SMALL HOUSE WITH A STRIKER IN FRONT OF IT. HERE IS ALSO A VESTA POT AND AN ASHTRAY AND CHEROOT OR CIGARETTE STAND UP STORAGE PIPES TO EACH SIDE OF THE HOUSE. HIS IS A FINE AND. NOVELTY PIECE THAT IS FRESH TO THE MARKET AND IT DISPLAYS QUITE SUPERBLY. E NGLISH – E UROPEAN c1890-10. CONDITION T HE CONDITION IS ANTIQUE USED. A SMALL PIECE OF BRASS EDGING MISSING ON FRONT EDGE LEFT HAND SIDE AND A SMALL VENEER CHIP ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF HOUSE. SOME GENERAL WEAR TO TO THE FINISH AND SOME OLD WORM HOLES AND IT HAS BEEN TREATED AS A PRECAUTION.
