A Rare And Very Unusual Combination – Top Level is a A. Abrahams Wood Cigar Storage & Vented Humidor – Bottom Level Is A Valley City, Smith & Shipman Wood Cigar Box. The top section, a vented humidor (6 7/8″ X 3 5/8″ X 3 1/8) has two applied wood stars and a paper label on top that reads Valley City. On the underside of the lid is a paper label that reads Manufactured from the best selected Havana Tobacco, A. 121 East Fayette Street, Syracuse. The lid has a cloth hinge that is loose & ripping. The bottom section (8 3/4″ x 5 5/8″ x 3 1/8) has a paper label under the lid that reads Manufactured expressly for Valley City, Smith & Shipman, 45 Pearl Street, Grand Rapids, Mich. The bottom lid has a cloth hinge that is in good condition. Both labels show some wear. On the bottom of the box is printed WN Trumble & Co. Both sections have the same thin wire hook and eye as closures. This unusual combination (never saw one before) is in very good condition for it’s age showing only minor wear and built up dust to the outside and some wear to the labels on the insides. Rarely found or even seen, this novelty Edwardian cigar box is beautifully executed in solid oak in the form of a horse drawn carriage. The sides are inlaid to emulate the panelling and door, the window made from the original mirrored glass. To either side there are polished brass door handles and removable carriage lamps. The example would have been used to roll down the centre of a large dinner table to serve after dinner cigars; the wheels all in perfect working order. The top of the carriage opens to reveal a cedar lined interior to keep the cigars fresh; often referred to as a humidor, that is in fact a modern invention, it is the cedar lining that did this job over 100 years ago. At the back of the carriage is a locked drawer with working key, which once opened reveals a match compartment, match strike and tray for spent matches and another smaller cedar lined compartment. The drawer is lucky enough to have been stamped with an English design registration number which allows us to date it accurately to 1904, Edwardian in era. Rare Rockwell Kent’Sally’ Art Deco Cigar Box. 1928 rare Rockwell Kent’Sally’ Art Deco cigar Box. The image on the lid of the box is attributed to Rockwell Kent, a famous early 20th c. The image depicts Sally Kent Gorton his wife and widow. The image was designed in 1928 for an A. Spalding & Brothers (men’s only store – 520 Fifth Avenue, NY) magazine advertisement. There are very few of this particular box available. Rockwell Kent had the image etched in the lids of some brass boxes, made by Chase Brass and Copper Company and gave them out as gifts to friends and business associates. This particular box has been well cared for. The inside of the is clean and in very good condition and I guess re-felted. The brass on the outside has developed a nice patina and has other signs of normal age. The box is marked A. Spalding & Bros on the front rim and EPCO on the back rim E. Is The East Prospect Cigar Company, Pennsylvania. Approximate dimensions: 18cm wide x 14cm deep x6.5 cm high. Collection/couriers always welcome from PE14 9PF, however we do not arrange the courier service but can recommend someone. Rare Rockwell Kent’Sally’ Art Deco Cigar Box. 1928 rare Rockwell Kent’Sally’ Art Deco cigar Box. The image on the lid of the box is attributed to Rockwell Kent, a famous early 20th c. The image depicts Sally Kent Gorton his wife and widow. The image was designed in 1928 for an A. Spalding & Brothers (men’s only store – 520 Fifth Avenue, NY) magazine advertisement. There are very few of this particular box available. Rockwell Kent had the image etched in the lids of some brass boxes, made by Chase Brass and Copper Company and gave them out as gifts to friends and business associates. This particular box has been well cared for. The inside of the is clean and in very good condition and I guess re-felted. The brass on the outside has developed a nice patina and has other signs of normal age. The box is marked A. Spalding & Bros on the front rim and EPCO on the back rim E. Is The East Prospect Cigar Company, Pennsylvania. Approximate dimensions: 18cm wide x 14cm deep x6.5 cm high. Collection/couriers always welcome from PE14 9PF, however we do not arrange the courier service but can recommend someone. Please do not use myHermes or similar – these are for easily wrapped parcels – not larger bits of furniture or items marked as collection only. By courier we mean a man with a van! Beautiful antique Meriden sliver plate humidor / cigar box. The item is featured with a hunting dog carrying a rabbit. The item is very rare and highly collectible. The lid sits nice and tight, and it is complete with the divider bar which holds the sponges. The lock appears in tact but missing the key. Stunning in its presentation this humidor would be the crown jewel for any cigar aficionado. Measures 7″ X 6.5″ X 6.5 including the height of the dog. Great patina I will leave it up to you to clean.
