John McCullough Cigar Box. Strickland & Van Ness, 93 Warren St, NY. This highly unusual and RARE cigar box has the government wrap dated 1883. What makes it unusual is that it is for John McCollough cigars. McCollough was an Irish immigrant stage actor that was very popular at the time. However, just one year after this cigar box is dated, he had a breakdown onstage that marked the public beginning of his descent into madness. He was committed and died in 1885. Even more interestingly, John Wilkes Booth was a close friend of the actor. Booth performed at a benefit for McCullough just one month before assassination Lincoln, McCullough was even interview about his friend after the fact. Size: 8.63 inches long, 4.5 wide, 2.75 inches tall. Nice original condition, original paper labels intact with wear, see photos. A Very Nice Rare Antique Early O. Zim Green Smokers Brass Hinged Embossed Dovetail Flip Top Cigar Box District of Connecticut Factory #74. All writing is embossed. Has writing on front, sides, bottom and both inner and outer top lid. Top lid has darkened more than the rest with age. Measures: 9-1/2″W x 5-1/4″D x 3-1/4H. Antique 19th century Victorian wooden cigar caddy or cigar presenter box. Free standing table top cabinet form. Sarcophagus styling to the top. Centered by ornate metal cartouches, the side hinges with stylized foliate decoration. Resting on four knob feet. Cabinet measures 11 3/8″ height x 8 1/8″ width x 7 1/2 deep. Opening to reveal eight sliding drawers with metal knobs. The carved grooved slots are capable of holding up to 6 cigars per drawer. The carved slots measure 5 1/4″ length x 13/16″ width. Will easily hold cigarillos and cigars with a cepo of 40 gauge with a 5 1/8 maximum length. In overall good antique condition with general wear commensurate with age and use. This antique cigar humidor is a true gem for collectors of vintage tobacciana. The piece features a stunning sterling silver top and is lined with milk glass to keep your cigars fresh. The sterling top of the humidor weighs approximately 3.7 troy ounces. The humidor is approximately 9 1/2 inches long by 4 1/4 inches wide by 2/2 inches tall not including the sterling knob. This is a very unusual humidor, lined with milk glass. There are four tiny holes on the bottom in the corners, there may have been feet on the humidor. Humidor is in good Used vintage condition. There is a triangle with a monogram. It looks like an ornate B. We have shown a mark of the sterling top. We do not know who the maker is. Great looking piece, fresh from a local estate. Any payments received for orders on those days will be processed on the following Tuesday afternoon. Our regular brick and mortar store hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 12 noon to 6pm.
