SUPERB and RARE large antique Victorian Edwardian Mahogany Humidor / Cigar Box

SUPERB large ANTIQUE Mahogany CIGAR humidor/box. Hi and welcome to my listing for this wonderful antique Edwardian cigar box. Pieces like this’ in this condition are becoming increasingly hard to find and it is a lovely example. The box is made from Mahogany. It has the word Cigar in white metal attached to the top of the lid and four plaques around the edge of the lid (note – the plaques have no inscriptions so the new owner could get these engraved if they so wished). There is also a lock (sadly no key). The box measures (externally) 11 inches (280 mm) long X 7 inches (180 mm) wide and stands 4.25 inches (110 mm) high. Internally the box has a sectional, non-removable lining with three possible positions for the dividing piece. The total internal length is 9 inches (228 mm), width 5 inches (125 mm) with the depth being about 2.5 inches (60 mm). The dividing strip may be placed in the middle or 3.25 inches (80 mm) in from either end which would give just over 5.5 inches (142 mm) for the larger section. I’d say the box is in very good/excellent condition for it’s age – the bottom of the box is not finished off as well as the main body or internal section so perhaps there was a felt base on the piece originally (there is a small remnant of some covering). Overall a superb original example would look great on a desk or study. Very stylish and usable and could even be used as a presentation piece with the plaques around the lid. Antique German Black Forest Wood Carved ANTLER HUMIDOR BOX Stag Rosette Hunt Dog Relief Key c1880. It is German, carved from wood to look like tree bark, and decorated with roebuck stag antler. 3 antler rosettes, one carved in relief showing a hunting dog. Inside shows a divided compartment. Dating to circa 1880. MEASURES: 9 7/8″ total height, 5 1/2″ to top of box, 11 1/2″ total width, 7 1/8″ deep. Good used condition showing great patina. A nail shows at the back of the lid and we see two chips just in front of the hinges. Inspect all photos to complete condition detail. Original finish, the wood is Mahogany. Beveled Edge Lid with a Silver Plaque No Monogram. Silver front Lock Plate with Key. This is an excellent quality 1900s table top humidor with a bright metal interior that has a mirror like finish and appearance. The top plate and front lock cover are a silver colored metal that are tarnished and. Un – marked as to its metal or its purity or composition un-tested. This is a true vintage / antique found in a local estate. The key was taped inside and when I tried the key it operated fine. A good clean large cigar/humidor box, sterling silver hallmarked from London in 1902, It carries a very nice inscription from London based Sailing Clubs which reads as follows. 1902 Upper Thames Sailing Club, Bourne End “BUSTY” First prize , Sept 6th , Henley Sailing Club First prize for highest aggregate during season for open boats “BUSTY”given by W. CLUB RACES “Busty” 3 first prizes and 2 second prizes “MISS BIFFIN”1 first prize and 1 second prize. This is an antique cedar humidor with a black lacquered finish and inlaid abalone and mother of pearl design. It features 4 doors that open to reveal cigar holder compartments. Each door has space for 6 cigars. There is also a drawer that opens at the bottom for additional storage. A very unique and unusual piece. Age and origin are unknown but appear to be English circa late 1800s, Victorian period based on other boxes with similar design. Would likely be best as a decorative piece for a collector as the doors do not close properly. Could also be repurposed to use as storage for other items or home decor. Condition: Excellent antique condition, wear commensurate with age and use. Doors do not close properly, wood has warped over time and it is off kilter. Abalone/Mother of pearl is largely intact. I offer for sale a fabulous 19th century (1800’s) large antique Victorian to Edwardian era French Black Forest 15 cigar chest or cabinet, a beautiful decorative box with ornate carvings two large bird or Curlew figural top, and also floral carvings on each side including the back. This case has a complete interior consisting of 7 drawers or trays plus another drawer beneath the doors to hold cigar smoking accessories. All of the original interior cigar trays remain with the chest and will hold a total of 63 cigars, as each wooden shelf has recesses for 9 cigars. No breaks, warps or missing pieces. Each shelf slides smoothly in and out of the grooved slot construction of the interior. A beautiful piece of furniture where ever you decide to display it.
