BEAR TOBACCO JAR MUSIC BOX. Black Forest Figural Wood Carved Humidor c. This is an Awesome BEAR TOBACCO JAR MUSIC BOX Black Forest Figural Wood Carved circa 1950. This tobacco jar music box. Is dark brown in color, with some decorative color accents, (photographed in natural light, the photos appear lighter than actual color). Is well modeled in deep relief with very good carving and detail. Depicts a seated bear carved in Black Forest style. Has an expressive face, a mouth with teeth, glass paperweight style eyes, ears straight up. Has a custom top, the head lifts open, and is fitted to the body; the base container, with a brass hinge, is the body of the bear with four outstretched paws; the base is hollowed out as a tobacco jar. Has a Thorens MUSIC BOX built into the base, which is activated by a string attached to the top; when the lid is opened the music box is activated- it plays There is No Place Like Home and Way Down Upon the Swanee River. The music box has been serviced, cleaned and oiled, and it works. Once the lid is closed the two songs stop after being played through. Has a round plinth elevated base with three small rounded feet; the underside has the winder key and access panel to the music box. Tall x 5.5 In. Wide x 6.5 In. The estimated date is circa 1950. The BEAR TOBACCO JAR MUSIC BOX Black Forest is in very good condition. Condition status includes minimal normal wear and rubbing. Overall, this work is sound, having no chips, cracks, or major defects, and having had no apparent repairs or restorations. Please see all photos which are a part of this description. The finest pieces of Black Forest carving were often found in Royal collections and elite collectors homes (usually Victorian world travelers). Carved Wood Folk Art Antique 13 x 8 Tin Lined Humidor Brass M. Monogram Lock Box (no key). Measurements – 3.5 H x 13 W x 8 D. Weight – 2 lb 9 oz. Very nice quality hand carved wood humidor box with brass inset monogram M. And tin lining, however there are some condition issues as follows: Crack across the top of the lid; rub mark below the brass monogram; no key for the lock; no chain to hold the lid when open. On the plus side: very nice quality wood; although lid is cracked the frame is not so the box is sturdy, lid fits properly and opens/closes with ease; true antique with age and character – brass inset monogram M. Original tin lining, metal button feet and lock – perhaps you can find a key’ carved panels all around except bottom. The scuffs are light and left as found – these could easily be touched up with finish feeder and look nicer than we are presenting. CHICAGO Illinois IL Label Carved Mahogony Wood with Milk Glass Lined HUMIDOR Box. Has two metal clips to hold in a moistened sponge which is no longer present. Weighs over 6 pounds before careful packing. Has a lock but I do not have the key. Has original label on the bottom as shown in last picture. 12 x 8 1/4 x 5 1/4 tall. Very good condition, the extension arm to control how far the top lid opens has broken out of the wood trim on the top as shown in the last pictures, could use some tlc to repair or removed completely.
