RARE 19th CENTURY VICTORIAN MECHANICAL EXPANDING THUJA BURL CIGAR HUMIDOR BOX
RARE 19th CENTURY VICTORIAN MECHANICAL EXPANDING THUJA BURL CIGAR HUMIDOR BOX. An extraordinary, museum-grade piece of late 19th-century European craftsmanship: an antique Victorian mechanical cantilever expanding cigarette and cigar humidor vanity desk box. Exotic Timber Composition & Artisan Craftsmanship. The exterior is faced in premium, heavily figured. Thuja Burl wood veneer. Highly prized in the luxury decorative arts for its tight, swirling clusters of “wild eyes” and deep amber-orange contrast lines. The wood retains its original, rich shellac polish which catches ambient light with an exceptional, deep visual warmth. The construction demonstrates incredible technical execution, down to the underside which features a rare, traditional interlocking “puzzle-box” sliding keyway joinery pattern built by old-world cabinetmakers to allow the dense timber to breathe over a century of climate shifts without splitting the framework. Smooth Mechanical Cantilever Kinetic Expansion. The true genius of this antique chest is its internal mechanical engineering. Upon lifting the primary lid and drawing back the side panels, a hand-fitted wood cantilever network automatically engages. The internal tier structure mechanically expands outward and lifts upward to present your collection across multiple tiers simultaneously. The interior features precision-grooved holding slots carved from. Solid aromatic cedar wood. Selected by period artisans for its native capability to insulate moisture and protect fine leaves. While the original rigid metal wire retention bars are gone, they were cleanly replaced during its history with soft, woven cream elastic bands that safely secure contents to the scalloped tracks without scratching or crushing delicate surfaces. This is a phenomenal, highly functional desk statement piece tailored for serious collectors of rare tobaccoriana, fine antique wooden boxes, or high-end “Dark Academia” executive study decor.

Rare 19th Century Scottish Gilt Brass or Bronze Cigar Box/Humidor Circa 1800s
Estate sale find, it’s got years of household either grease or smoke residue, I didn’t d not want to clean, was afraid of damaging gilt. But otherwise pristine, and not overly dirty it’s actually very clean, just needs proper cleaning to bring out luster. Phenomenal find and piece. Cedar lined The ones made for letters and diary repository were made approximately around 1850 the cigar box version approximately 1870. I believe same maker, one was for men one for women. The repository has material inside that’s stamped by maker, where these are cedar lined.
