Superb Army & Navy Hallmarked Silver & Oak Campaign Cigar Humidor Desk Box C1897

A solid oak compagine cigar humidor made from golden oak in 1897 with HALLMARKED silver lock and fittings. Extremely rare as silver was both valuable and rare and used at the time as currency. And the silversmith hallmark is Frederick Bradford Mc Cray who was born in 1833 and joined the 14th foot regiment in 1854. At some point founding the company that created this box. He died in 1914. The box was made from top quality solid golden oak and is fully fitted out as a cigar humidor lined in cedar wood. Superb condition for age however one hinge is damaged and a small piece of cedar wood on the side has broken off. Originally there would have been a name plate on the top of the box also The box is 123 years old and all otherwise complete. The key is missing however luckily having a brahmah lock one could be ordered from the store in marylebone London. Beautiful museum grade rare piece. Only one known to exist. And only box we have ever seen with solid silver locks and fittings. Superb patina to the oak. A perfect size box for modern use and a rugged clearly campaign feel and look. Art Deco Bronze Brass Desk Humidor Box CDE Carl Deffner Jugendstil Tobacco Tin

A wonderful circa late 1910s to 1920s desk-top humidor box made of brass or bronze and embellished with a raised relief design, a beautiful Art Deco motif with linear and curved elements that hint at the sinuous lines of the Jugendstil style. Made by Carl Deffner of Esslingen, Germany, the underside is marked with his crossed axe and shield mark. The box in oval in shape, and it closes securely with a hinged lid that certainly seems to be airtight, as these old humidor boxes should be. It was designed to be used with a blotter sheet, to which a few drops of water could be added to help maintain the proper humidity levels. The inside of the box is lined in a white metal, likely tin. Measures approximately 5″ x 3 7/8″ at its widest and stands a little over 3 tall. It’s in very good condition with the natural patina mostly intact and no flaws or damage to note except for a small ding on one side which isn’t readily obvious unless you look at the underside. I offer for sale a fabulous 19th century (1800’s) large antique Victorian to Edwardian era French Black Forest 15 cigar chest or cabinet, a beautiful decorative box with ornate carvings two large bird or Curlew figural top, and also floral carvings on each side including the back. This case has a complete interior consisting of 7 drawers or trays plus another drawer beneath the doors to hold cigar smoking accessories. All of the original interior cigar trays remain with the chest and will hold a total of 63 cigars, as each wooden shelf has recesses for 9 cigars. No breaks, warps or missing pieces. Each shelf slides smoothly in and out of the grooved slot construction of the interior. A beautiful piece of furniture where ever you decide to display it. Antique Black Forest Desk Cigar Cabinet, Chest, Box, Presentation Server – not Humidor. All items and photos are the express property of Antiques & Uncommon Treasure. Delightful Antique Black Forest Victorian to Edwardian era 8 5/8 cigar cabinet, chest, presentation or service box with elegant serpentine shaping, highly ornate foliate carving and raised or applied flower & leaf grouping on top. We’ve had and offered a wide variety of these great old Black Forest boxes in the past featuring a host of different and wonderful forest critters, the foxes are a personal favorite for me though everyone loves the stags, bears, other animals. The Fruits of the Hunt themes are also popular, this one with a foliate motif throughout, no animals but a wonderful serpentine shaping and lighter wood finish. Relatively dainty in size but all of the visual & decorative appeal. The lid and front doors open tantalus style, fittings for upright cigars inside and a drawer in the base that has partitions and a covered match compartment. All of the original interior cigar fittings remain with the chest and will hold a total of 36 cigars, eighteen in the rear fittings and nine on each door. A few small flaws but, as you can see, this one is fabulous! If you’ve followed us for a while you know I’m a big fan of the old hand carved “Black Forest” items that come to us from 19th century Switzerland, Germany, parts of France and Italy, where they pleased the Grand Tour tourists and still please us all today. These hand carved treasures range from whimsical small bears to large and elaborate mantel clocks, wall clocks, wall plaques showing the most awesome anatomical studies of stag, fowl, “fruits of the hunt”. I’ve got more to list so look through the vast collection. I’ve just used quite a few piece in our own 2nd home decoration , Rocky Mountains location, and love the look as well as the heritage since my own ancestors hail from that region and others. The pieces work well in Country Manor, French Country, Ski Lodge or Hunt Lodge and even in a den or office. Everything from a pocket watch case to huge plaques – from needle and thread holders to cigar caddy – these decorative objects survive today a testament to the artisan’s craft of carving wood. Very good condition for age and type, with a beautiful lighter finish yet slightly aged patina to the exterior carved wood cabinet, likely Lindon wood, or a lighter walnut. The pull on the lower drawer has a glue repair and there are a few glued restorations around the base where the serpentine sides meet the solid wood bases (above and below the drawer) but they really don’t detract from the piece in any way. The lock & key work but there is no mechanism to keep the left side door from opening when locked (and I don’t see that there ever was). See pictures for all measurements. We’re easy to deal with.
