19th C Figural Resting Dog Pipe Cigar Humidor Tobacco Jar Box Yellow Stoneware

An exceptional Yellow Ware Figural Humidor, Continental, Austrian, possibly English, 19th Century heavily-detailed box features framed bird theme motifs on each side and also a lion king crest. A resting Greyhound-type canine sits atop the fitted lid, providing an oversized handle/finial. Superb details and accents throughout. Stamped in the base “HH 80″ Or “HB 80″(see close-up). Condition: There is general, age-appropriate wear, crazing & discoloration on the glaze surface throughout. Several small nicks and small chips as well as a few hairline cracks. Remnants of original gold gilding are visible in areas. The gilding was likely only used for accenting the areas of highest relief. Although the above is noted for complete accuracy; this Humidor displays beautifully and will feature prominently in any collection. See photos for complete details and consider them as part of the description. Item may need some cleaning. I left it as found. Measures approximately 5-5/8″L x 4-3/4″W x 5-1/4H overall.

4.5″W × 4.5″D × 5.5H 3-D. Quadruple plate humidor by James W. Tufts Boston featuring a barrel shaped design. The barrel section has 2 layers of cigars secured with a band. The lid has a man smoking a cigar and blowing out smoke which forms the word “cigars”. Tufts Boston Warranted Quadruple Plate 3271.

I KNOW THIS PIECE IS DURGIN BECAUSE ABOUT 15 YEARS AGO I HAD ANOTHER ONE EXACTLY LIKE IT WITH A DIFFERENT ENAMELED SMOKING SCENE PLAQUE. THE STERLING LID ON THAT ONE HAD A MONOGRAM WITH A DATE OF 1895. IT IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH NO DAMAGE. THE STERLING LID HAS A SUBSTANTIAL WEIGHT OF 4.7 TROY OUNCES.
