Antique Cigar Humidor Box Wooden Milk Glass-Lined Heavy J. W. Selover WOW
Wood lined with Milkglass. Measures: 11 1/2 wide x 7 3/4 deep x 4 1/2 tall. Has a key lock however no key is included. Metal plaque on top reads J. 4 metal feet on bottom. 2 tabs on inside (see photo #6). Box weighs 5 lbs 6 oz. Humidor was acquired from an estate with no history, but I did find this interesting article online. Selover, a Seattle fruit and produce broker of J. Selover met his untimely demise on July 15, 1932. Not sure if this is the same J. Selover but because this was acquired in Washington state, it may well be. CONDITION: Glass liner is intact, no cracks. Wood is marked, scratched and has some indents (see photos #3 & 12). Box opens and closes well. Interior has faint smoke-smell. Vintage / Antique – age unknown. Outside – 28 cm long, 8 cm wide, and 6 cm high. Inside – 25 cm long, 5 cm wide. Size infers it was made to fit premium quality Cuban-type cigars. Heavy 1110 grams in weight. I think it has a porcelain base – which makes sense as a material that would help maintain inside temperature (humidor) under the decoration. It is a really lovely box – looks and feels like a quality piece – especially so with the substantial weight of materials used. Unlike plain timber vintage/antique cigar boxes it looks good AND is made of materials that help maintain the inside temperature. I used the word’Rare’ because I was unable to find anything even remotely comparable through online searches. If you can find anything similar, please let me know. Sampson Mordan Solid Sterling Silver Cigar Box. A very handsome solid silver cigar box dating to London 1905. Large and heavy 2,339 g. , the box is made by renowned maker Sampson Mordan. Of plain, rounded rectangular form, the exterior unadorned. The hinged lid with gilt underside. Box interior lined in cedar. The underside of the box featuring exotic hardwood. Hallmarked to the lip for Sampson Mordan, London 1905. With additional hallmarks to the underside of the lid. An attractive piece of excellent quality and heavy gauge throughout. In good antique condition with some wear. Minor dings and surface wear / scratches throughout. There are some small knocks to the corners see pics. Hallmarks are clear and legible. Vintage Custom Handmade Large & Heavy Wooden Cigar Humidor Box. Approximate measurements 17.5″ long x 11.5″ deep x 5.75 tall I acquired this from a wonderful gentleman. He and his family owned a popular restaurant in Miami. From what he told me it was quite a popular place and they even filmed a TV show in it many times. This beautiful humidor was given as a gift to him. As you can see from the pictures it is jet black with a mirror finish. The overall condition especially given its age I would say is very nice. Antique BRASS HUMIDOR CIGAR BOX CASKET. Very heavy and highly l made, nicely ornate with open work featuring mythological scene all around and on top of lid. Lined in wood inside. Acorn shaped puller to open box. Overall box is in good shape , but I would like to sell it in as is condition, as there is some wear to the piece. Top lid shows oxidation on head of figure on left and top right corner(see last photo and photo # 11) and front side. W eights 7Lb 7oz. Measures 1″ x 4-1/2″ x 6-1/2. Inside wood shows wear (photos 8-9-10). Not perfect, but still a beautiful work of art. Please ask for more photos as needed. I will be happy to send more.
