Over time and refills, the mold retardant inside the cartridge will dissipate therefore causing the cartridge to hold less and less water. Typically, you can go around 2 years on one cartridge assuming refilling every 3-4 months. How well your humidor seals, the design of your humidor and how many cigars you have inside your humidor will affect how long you can go between cartridge refills.
