Made 19th century, in Germany by Erhard & Sohnne, established in 1844. 5 3/8inches long; 3inches wide; 2 5/8inches high. Stands on 4 legs. Exceptional relief sculpture on all sides and top of the casket. Each scene depicts heroic figures pursueing an act of industry. Some work machinery, some plant, water, graft, carry baskets, work in fields, ride carts. Unusually rich background detail of trees, fruit, baskets. The top depicts a youth riding one horse, another reigned with it. The horses rear through a landscape of trees and bushes, houses and high walls in the background. The figures are almost 3-dimentional and the moulding is highly detailed and naturalistic. Inside is lined in it’s original green velvet. Original KEY with openwork lion. TRAMP ART Tobacco Cigar Humidor Jewelry Box Tool Drawer Wood Antique Vintage. Antique Tramp Art Tobacco/Cigar Humidor Box with drawer to store accessories–cutters, scissors, tampers, etc. Beautifully executed wood design. 11″ tall to very top; 13″ from side handle to side handle. Lid top measures 10 1/4″ x 8 1/4″. Inner bottom measures 8″ x 6″ x 3 5/8 deep. Moisture top with metal bottom has inner measurement of 2 5/8 square. Drawer at side bottom measures 8″ x 5 1/2″ x 3/4 deep. Moisture top has had the closing front tabs both broken and glued back together some time ago with a silver color glue. There was likely some kind of wood stick that would slide through the front tabs to hold the moisture top shut when the box was opened. The original stick is missing. Otherwise the piece is in wonderful original condition. This is truly an exceptionally well crafted piece of Tramp Art. This was being used as a jewelry box when acquired many years ago.
