Another elegantly crafted cigar presentation cabinet – not a humidor (no moisturizing element inside) this is the cabinet at table or desk in den, and holds up to 50 cigars. A slightly smaller version than the last several we’ve offered, this cigar cabinet is 9″ x 7 5/8″ and 8 1/2 tall when closed. Raised just a bit on lathe-turned wooden feet, accented with brass boulle cartouche and stringing, canted corners – it’s a beauty! Still has its working lock and key, too (rare). Very good to excellent condition for age and type, it is not pristine, however. As with almost all of these old ones (150 + years now), it has some signs of age. While it has all 5 original trays, and they all have their original knobs, I can see that one tray has broken and been repaired. This is a quite common occurrence, owing to the way they’re grooved for the cigars. I’ve marked it with an “x”. There is a little roughness to top left cover/top – like 3 lines on the old wood, slight age shrinkage from look of it. On opposite side of lid, from top view, you can see a spot which could use some ebony filler. The old hardwood veneers are beautiful, elegantly contrasted and the pencil edging up top, wood corner-round, rather than brass edging is just beautiful. The old braced hinge and lock are each upper-grade hardware. The anchor/brace keeps the lid from tipping too far back when opened. It’s beautiful in use. These never last long in our shop. Beautifully carved and very well preserved late 1800s to as late as 1915 cigar chest with lift-out tray to hold up to 40 cigars. Floral bouquet carved up top, and all-over adornments details. The original key still works the old lock. We’ve put up lots of photos from all angles, and measurements are noted on the photos. Very good to excellent condition, with a nod to an old repaired crack along one of the lines of perforated top panel of the interior cigar tray. It is strong and barely visible, but we want you to know it is there. A tip of one leaf of the bouquet cartouche is gone, as well (see images). The florals are really beautifully carved in a full relief, life-like. Lock engages and original key still attends it. We’re easy to deal with. You are very important! I offer for sale a fabulous 19th century (1800’s) large antique Victorian to Edwardian era French Black Forest 15 cigar chest or cabinet, a beautiful decorative box with ornate carvings two large bird or Curlew figural top, and also floral carvings on each side including the back. This case has a complete interior consisting of 7 drawers or trays plus another drawer beneath the doors to hold cigar smoking accessories. All of the original interior cigar trays remain with the chest and will hold a total of 63 cigars, as each wooden shelf has recesses for 9 cigars. No breaks, warps or missing pieces. Each shelf slides smoothly in and out of the grooved slot construction of the interior. A beautiful piece of furniture where ever you decide to display it. Delightful Antique Black Forest Victorian to Edwardian era 8 5/8 cigar cabinet, chest, presentation or service box with elegant serpentine shaping, highly ornate foliate carving and raised or applied flower & leaf grouping on top. We’ve had and offered a wide variety of these great old Black Forest boxes in the past featuring a host of different and wonderful forest critters, the foxes are a personal favorite for me though everyone loves the stags, bears, other animals. The Fruits of the Hunt themes are also popular, this one with a foliate motif throughout, no animals but a wonderful serpentine shaping and lighter wood finish. Relatively dainty in size but all of the visual & decorative appeal. The lid and front doors open tantalus style, fittings for upright cigars inside and a drawer in the base that has partitions and a covered match compartment. All of the original interior cigar fittings remain with the chest and will hold a total of 36 cigars, eighteen in the rear fittings and nine on each door. A few small flaws but, as you can see, this one is fabulous! If you’ve followed us for a while you know I’m a big fan of the old hand carved “Black Forest” items that come to us from 19th century Switzerland, Germany, parts of France and Italy, where they pleased the Grand Tour tourists and still please us all today. These hand carved treasures range from whimsical small bears to large and elaborate mantel clocks, wall clocks, wall plaques showing the most awesome anatomical studies of stag, fowl, “fruits of the hunt”. I’ve got more to list so look through the vast collection. I’ve just used quite a few piece in our own 2nd home decoration , Rocky Mountains location, and love the look as well as the heritage since my own ancestors hail from that region and others. The pieces work well in Country Manor, French Country, Ski Lodge or Hunt Lodge and even in a den or office. Everything from a pocket watch case to huge plaques – from needle and thread holders to cigar caddy – these decorative objects survive today a testament to the artisan’s craft of carving wood. Very good condition for age and type, with a beautiful lighter finish yet slightly aged patina to the exterior carved wood cabinet, likely Lindon wood, or a lighter walnut. The pull on the lower drawer has a glue repair and there are a few glued restorations around the base where the serpentine sides meet the solid wood bases (above and below the drawer) but they really don’t detract from the piece in any way. The lock & key work but there is no mechanism to keep the left side door from opening when locked (and I don’t see that there ever was). See pictures for all measurements. We’re easy to deal with.
