BEAR TOBACCO JAR MUSIC BOX. Black Forest Figural Wood Carved Humidor c. This is an Awesome BEAR TOBACCO JAR MUSIC BOX Black Forest Figural Wood Carved circa 1950. This tobacco jar music box. Is dark brown in color, with some decorative color accents, (photographed in natural light, the photos appear lighter than actual color). Is well modeled in deep relief with very good carving and detail. Depicts a seated bear carved in Black Forest style. Has an expressive face, a mouth with teeth, glass paperweight style eyes, ears straight up. Has a custom top, the head lifts open, and is fitted to the body; the base container, with a brass hinge, is the body of the bear with four outstretched paws; the base is hollowed out as a tobacco jar. Has a Thorens MUSIC BOX built into the base, which is activated by a string attached to the top; when the lid is opened the music box is activated- it plays There is No Place Like Home and Way Down Upon the Swanee River. The music box has been serviced, cleaned and oiled, and it works. Once the lid is closed the two songs stop after being played through. Has a round plinth elevated base with three small rounded feet; the underside has the winder key and access panel to the music box. Tall x 5.5 In. Wide x 6.5 In. The estimated date is circa 1950. The BEAR TOBACCO JAR MUSIC BOX Black Forest is in very good condition. Condition status includes minimal normal wear and rubbing. Overall, this work is sound, having no chips, cracks, or major defects, and having had no apparent repairs or restorations. Please see all photos which are a part of this description. The finest pieces of Black Forest carving were often found in Royal collections and elite collectors homes (usually Victorian world travelers). 1928 RARE Rockwell Kent Sally Art Deco Cigar Box. The outside of the box is brass and the inside is lined with wood. The image on the front is attributed ti Rockwell Kent, a famous artist, print maker and writer, 1882 1971. The image depicts Sally (Sally Kent Gorton) his wife and widow. The image was designed in 1928 for an A. Spalding & Brothers magazine advertisement. Epicts Sally (Sally Kent Gorton) his wife and widow. There are very few of this particular box available. Rockwell Kent had the image etched in the lids of some brass boxes and gave them out as gifts to friends and business associates. This particular box has been well cared for. The inside of the is clean and in very good condition. The brass on the outside has developed a nice patina and has other signs of normal age. The lid is also still very well attached with a good working hinge. It is about 2 5/8 inches by 5.5 inches by 7 1/8 inches. The box is marked A. Fantastic & rare antique French Napoleon III era Empire Revival style 11 3/8 cigar box, tantalus or presenter in solid oak with brass accenting, a spectacular bronze Blackamoor style Middle Eastern figure & dog with his tent! Isn’t this one magnificent! A rare early piece, this one in solid old growth European oak and the figures are both heavy, solid bronze (not the bronze patinated white metal you see in later pieces). Influenced by the Napoleonic French Empire, when the Oriental campaigns introduced foreign styles, figures and goods. The gent dressed rather opulently, smoking a pipe and seated on what appears to be a drum. One of our finest right now, don’t miss it! Very good condition, age considered. You can see there there are one or two missing brass strip accents and some tarnish here and there. A few age or drying splits or cracks but in overall great shape. The figures are both pristine, the seated figure’s bolt on the base of the box is a replacement though. The interior of the box with the original cigar fittings. This is a beautiful Cherry Wood humidor with a matt finish. It is fully lined and will really make a great addition to any home. When you open the box there is a wooden cover with “ZENITH” thereon, and a finger hole to lift this up to reveal a removable box and 2 moveable sections. This box has been in storage and has never been used. There are slight marks to one end (see pics) but othewise in immaculate condition. All hinges, felt bottom in excellent condition. Lid closes perfectly smoothly. Humistat fitted in lid. Scratch Resistant Felt Bottom. Size approx :38.5cm x 21.5cm x 10cm. Specialty items Colt made of this bakelite included buttons, cosmetic cases, and humidors/cigarette boxes, like this one, styled to look like a book, called, The Courtship of Lady Nicotine. Does it get more noir than this? This box still has its original ashtray. The original flint is missing. We will include a piece of cuttable striker material as well. These boxes are extremely scarce.
