Rare Rockwell Kent’Sally’ Art Deco Cigar Box. 1928 rare Rockwell Kent’Sally’ Art Deco cigar Box. The image on the lid of the box is attributed to Rockwell Kent, a famous early 20th c. The image depicts Sally Kent Gorton his wife and widow. The image was designed in 1928 for an A. Spalding & Brothers (men’s only store – 520 Fifth Avenue, NY) magazine advertisement. There are very few of this particular box available. Rockwell Kent had the image etched in the lids of some brass boxes, made by Chase Brass and Copper Company and gave them out as gifts to friends and business associates. This particular box has been well cared for. The inside of the is clean and in very good condition and I guess re-felted. The brass on the outside has developed a nice patina and has other signs of normal age. The box is marked A. Spalding & Bros on the front rim and EPCO on the back rim E. Is The East Prospect Cigar Company, Pennsylvania. Approximate dimensions: 18cm wide x 14cm deep x6.5 cm high. Collection/couriers always welcome from PE14 9PF, however we do not arrange the courier service but can recommend someone. Please do not use myHermes or similar – these are for easily wrapped parcels – not larger bits of furniture or items marked as collection only. By courier we mean a man with a van! This listing is for an EPCO A. Spalding & Bros Rockwell Kent Art Deco Brass Etched Cigar Box from the 1920s. A fairly rare object displaying one of Kent’s finest graphic images. Brass body with intaglio etched lid; wood lining. The image depicts “Sally”, Kent’s wife. Designed in 1928 for A. 520 Fifth Avenue, and executed by Chase Brass. Spalding & Bros” on front rim and “EPCO on back rim. Is The East Prospect Cigar Company, Pennsylvania. Measures approximately 7-1/8″W x 5-1/2″D x 2H. Good overall vintage condition with slight toning of original finish very typical for this type of ware. Moderate wear and tear, but still has good years left.
