A 19th century smoker’s caddy with huge and beautifully carved German Shepherd dog hinged to open for tobacco or cigar storage inside hollowed out pot. An angled server for matches and a brass cup for spent matches and ashes or cigar clippings. This one is superb! Yes, tip of one ear has been chipped ages ago, could be restored quite easily. No other flaws to note. Glass eyes bring him alive, don’t they? He’s chained, and rests one front foot above the squared off old log that comprises the 11 wide front piece, with a paw showing along bottom, too. Very good to excellent condition for age and type. That he’s got one nipped ear only is a bit of a miracle after so long a time. Obviously well cared for and cherished. The brass pot shows some old evidence of ash. He’s definitely served well. The interior of the tobacco compartment is clear, no residue, no odors. I’ve noted maximum depth on the photos, and that it is 8″ tall as it sits, and 11″ wide. Yes, some very old and inactive (treated) woodworm holes here or there. Nothing spongy or ruined about him. Just that Old European charm of age. You will LOVE this one! We’re easy to deal with.
