SUPERB 20thC FRENCH AIR FORCE SOLID SILVER CIGAR & CIGARETTE HUMIDOR BOX c. 1927

Superb early-20th Century Art Deco solid silver stylish mechanised cigar and cigarette box, sarcophagus-shaped, engine turned and applied with a fine acanthus leaf boarders, sides mounted with realistically modelled lion masks with bars in mouth acting as turn handles to open the four compartments of a wood lined interior. The front bearing the French badge of the FAFL (Free French Air Force) with the Cross of Lorraine. Engraved in French along the base: “Les Forces Aériennes Françaises de Grande Bretagne à leur chef le Colonel Pierre Coustey, Londres 5.3.1946 ” – “The French Air Forces of Great Britain to their leader Colonel Pierre Coustey, London 5.3.1946″. Pierre Coustey (Aviation Ace), promoted to Chief of Staff of the Free French Air Force at the headquarters based in London for 363 days, from April 1942 to March 1943. Hallmarked with English silver marks (925 standard), London, year 1927 (m), Maker DBH (Dyas Beverley Hampton), Patent Pending. 1930 German Koch&Bergfeld Silver Plate Egyptian Revival Art Cigar Box Humidor

Just now, I’m offering here a marvelous and scarce German Art Deco era cigarette/cigar box. Important lidded box by Koch&Bergfeld featuring Egyptian revival motifs at all sides. Fine silver plated brass box marked on the bottom with Koch&Bergfeld key mark; lettering” Feinsiber Auf.’ and retail store Egyptian motif mark, unidentifyed by me. It is absolutely great example of Art Deco decorative arts, in my opinion professional artist work. Richly decorated repose brass with many Egyptian motifs, Pyramids, Warriors, Temples, Lions Hunting scene and main motif on the lid Egyptian Pharaoh on Chariot. The box lined inside with mahogany wood on bottom and on sides to be used with cigars. The box is excellent preserved for its age with dark tone patina on silver at outside. Originate from private collection in Germany. Original condition; Please, inspect all photos carefully as they are included as part of the item description. Measures: 9.5” x 5.25” x 3” h.
