Grand English Sterling Silver Cigar Box / Humidor by Richard Comyns 1928

A top quality cigar box made from English solid / sterling silver, a heavy box with good gauge silver with solid cast bracket feet and the most fabulous two hinged handles to either side, both separately hallmarked. When the lid is lifted, you can feel the weight and gauge of silver; the interior is fully fitted with cedar wood lining with two movable dividers which can be removed for very large cigars. The silver is fully hallmarked for London 1928 together with the makers mark for the top notch silversmith, Richard Comyns, always produced quality pieces. A superb and scarce box with the footprint measuring 9 3/4″ x 6 1/8″ x 3 1/2 tall. Made by Hermes in France, fully marked, circa 1970s, very hard to find. Written on base Banco do Brasil, Paris. 1972 1982 that means it was gift from Bank of Brazil in Paris in the 1970s. 19cm wide X 12,7cm depth x 3cm high. All, original, pre-owned, has some minor wear from general usage, and general signs of age, no important damage or dents, great overall condition, please see pictures. Superb Army & Navy Hallmarked Silver & Oak Campaign Cigar Humidor Desk Box C1897

A solid oak compagine cigar humidor made from golden oak in 1897 with HALLMARKED silver lock and fittings. Extremely rare as silver was both valuable and rare and used at the time as currency. And the silversmith hallmark is Frederick Bradford Mc Cray who was born in 1833 and joined the 14th foot regiment in 1854. At some point founding the company that created this box. He died in 1914. The box was made from top quality solid golden oak and is fully fitted out as a cigar humidor lined in cedar wood. Superb condition for age however one hinge is damaged and a small piece of cedar wood on the side has broken off. Originally there would have been a name plate on the top of the box also The box is 123 years old and all otherwise complete. The key is missing however luckily having a brahmah lock one could be ordered from the store in marylebone London. Beautiful museum grade rare piece. Only one known to exist. And only box we have ever seen with solid silver locks and fittings. Superb patina to the oak. A perfect size box for modern use and a rugged clearly campaign feel and look.
