SUPERB 20thC FRENCH AIR FORCE SOLID SILVER CIGAR & CIGARETTE HUMIDOR BOX c. 1927

Superb early-20th Century Art Deco solid silver stylish mechanised cigar and cigarette box, sarcophagus-shaped, engine turned and applied with a fine acanthus leaf boarders, sides mounted with realistically modelled lion masks with bars in mouth acting as turn handles to open the four compartments of a wood lined interior. The front bearing the French badge of the FAFL (Free French Air Force) with the Cross of Lorraine. Engraved in French along the base: “Les Forces Aériennes Françaises de Grande Bretagne à leur chef le Colonel Pierre Coustey, Londres 5.3.1946 ” – “The French Air Forces of Great Britain to their leader Colonel Pierre Coustey, London 5.3.1946″. Pierre Coustey (Aviation Ace), promoted to Chief of Staff of the Free French Air Force at the headquarters based in London for 363 days, from April 1942 to March 1943. Hallmarked with English silver marks (925 standard), London, year 1927 (m), Maker DBH (Dyas Beverley Hampton), Patent Pending. Antique SOLID Cherry Wood 1885 Humidor Box Folk Art Decoration Fraktur Cut Outs

This estate fresh, un-restored solid cherry wood humidor from the 1880’s measures 9″ x 14″ x 8 1/2 overall and retains original surface on the outside and original zinc interior. One end has a tinsmith made zinc drawer for a damp sponge and all of the exterior is decorated with delicately cut-out and colored pictorial paper decorations of birds, trees, castle, horsemen and flowers. It retains original brass hinges and ceramic knob and is sturdy (dirty) and usable with some gentle cleaning. The wood bottom is a bit soft from years of dripping moisture from the “sponge drawer” and there is significant wear and loss to the applied paper decoration on the lid. Refinished & Restored Solid Walnut Antique Cigar HumidorMilk Glass Liner

Beautifully refinished solid walnut cigar humidor. Measures 10 3/4″ long x 7 3/4″ deep x 4 1/4 tall. Inside is 9 3/4″ long x 6 5/8″ deep x 3 1/8 tall. Sides are 3/8 thick and assembled using the splined miter joint. 90º hinges in good working order. Exterior refinished with MinWax Satin Varnish and hand polished to a soft luster with 0000 steel wool and paste wax. Inside bottom and lid are lined with milk glass. Sides are lined with finished mahogany. Blank brass engraving plate on top. All joints are solid. No cracks, scratches or splits in the wood. Please contact before purchasing.
