Gustav Stickley, Hammered Copper Humidor Box, Cigars, Tobacco, Nice Patina

The humidor is quite large as it measures 7 3/8″ wide by 5 3/4″ deep and 4 5/8 tall to the top of the handle. This humidor has a wonderful hand hammered texture on copper with a splendid applied hand hammered decorative handle. The hand hammering is plentiful and wonderfully done. The patina is as found original condition and considered quite good. You can see some wear with the copper peeking through especially on the underside of the box. The craftsman brown patina with darker brown highlights brings the warmth to this piece. The handle is mounted to the top cover and is held in place with faceted rivets. There is a wooden box that fits inside the hammered copper humidor box to hold the cigars or tobacco and keep it off the metal. There is also a lid that fits perfectly down inside the box with a round handle. I believe this to be a later addition. This humidor is considered to be in very good to excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips or dents to the metal. Some areas of patina are weaker than others but it is original as found. The inside shows hardly any patina wear. The humidor is signed with the “The-Craftsman-Workshops-Gustav-Stickley” impressed mark along with the “ALS IK KAN” symbol impressed mark. RARE 19th CENTURY DERBY SILVER CO. BULLDOG FIGURAL TOBACCO BOX HUMIDOR

CENTURY DERBY SILVER CO. BULLDOG FIGURAL TOBACCO BOX HUMIDOR. Measures approximately 6 high (to the bulldogs ear) by 5 5/16 wide by 6 1/8 deep. Signed on the underside Derby Silver Co. It also features the impressed numbers 90 and 3406. This silverplated tobacco box/humidor is in excellent original condition. The bulldog has wonderful brown/black glass eyes. There are two round-headed screws which hold the lid down over the compartment under the bulldog. One of them is brass-colored and I assume is a replacement. The other one is what I believe is probably the original silver-colored one. The Derby Silver Company was founded in 1872, and began operations on Shelton’s Canal Street one year later. The company soon outgrew its quarters and constructed a larger building, which still stands on Bridge Street, Shelton, in 1877 near the Housatonic River, overlooking Derby. A number of additions were added in subsequent years. The original Canal Street building was razed when the railroad was built through Shelton in 1888. The company made toilet articles, mirrors, combs, clocks, brushes, table and flatware, tea sets, children’s cups, loving cups (trophies), candlesticks, fruit baskets, dishes, basically anything which was plated by or made of silver. Special orders were constantly commissioned as well. The factory manufactured items for the Sperry and Hutchins trading stamp stores. Showrooms were established in New York City, Chicago, and San Francisco. The logo at the time featured an anchor, often with the words “Derby Silver Company” or its initials surrounding it. In 1898, the plant merged with the International Silver Company, a consortium of Connecticut silver companies. At that time the Derby Silver Company works was known as “Factory B”. Thus, as a rule of thumb, items with the Derby Silver Company logo most likely date from the nineteenth century, while items with the International Silver Company logo, either Derby or Factory B, are from the twentieth. Fabulous antique 19th century Black Forest hand carved wood tobacco humidor. Decorated with finely carved whimsical farm scene, portraying a fully dimensional figure of a rooster standing on an upturned barrel. Meant to store cigars or tobacco, the humidor is carved in the form of a large lidded barrel. Ideal to use as a fantastic decorative accessory, a desk caddy in the office for example. The rooster motif is perfect to incorporate into French country or farm house decor. Measures 8 1/2″ tall x 7 1/4″ wide. In overall good antique condition with wear from age and use. Rare Antique Russian Ptd COSSACKS Tobacco Humidor Box Vishnyakov Imperial Era. Offering a very handsome Antique Russian Painted Humidor/Tobacco Box. Signed inside by celebrated VISHNYAKOV– awarded numerous gold Imperial medals. Retains original interior tin foil paper. Well loved– inside retains the lingering aroma of tobacco. Lid– hand painted– portraying Russian woman peasant and two Cossacks. One playing the accordion and one dancing– kicking up his heels. Rare to see Cossack dancing on Russian boxes– usually painted are Troika sleds. Wear commensurate with age and use. Thumping, bumps and wear on corners– see images. Crazing on painted lid, but painting itself is in very good condition. Hinges are strong and stable. Approx– 5 3/8″ by 3 3/8″ by 3 1/4 h. Hard to find early signed Box. Wonderful scene of animated Russian country life. Rare to find Humidor/Tobacco box with original silver foil. We wrap all our items very carefully.
