Magnificent Large Antique English Walnut Cigar Cabinet / Box / Humidor c. 1890

A superb large cigar cabinet with lovely arched glazed doors retaining the original bevelled glass. Made from the most stunning Burl Walnut timber, with a gorgeous grain and a warm, rich toffee colour. With polished brass swing handles to either side. The fronts of the three drawers have pairs of matching brass swing handles which create an attractive show through the glass. The interior of the drawers is lined in Cedar wood which is what kept cigars fresh; this is not officially a Humidor as these are modern inventions to regulate the humidity within; it is the Cedar lining that did this job well over 100 years ago. Each of the drawers has an adjustable / removable divider to customise the interior’s configuration. The cabinet comes complete with a working key.. A stunning box in excellent condition dating to c. A good size with a footprint measuring 11 3/4″ x 8 1/2″ and standing 11 1/2 tall. Welcome to Antiques & Moore! THIS LISTING IS FOR A NICE ANTIQUE ENGLISH WALNUT CASE FULLY LINED HUMIDOR WITH KEY. BOX MEASURES 11″ LONG, 8 1/4″ WIDE AND 6 1/2 DEEP. WEIGHS 9.6 POUNDS. THIS NICE HUMIDOR HAS A BEAUTIFULLY GRAINED WALNUT CASE AND ORIGINAL KEY. THE BOX HAS A LONG BRASS “PIANO” HINGE THAT OPENS AND CLOSES CORRECTLY. THERE IS A CHAIN THAT CONNECTS THE TOP TO THE BOTTOM TO HOLD THE BOX IN AN OPEN POSITION. THE INTERIOR OF THE LID IS LINED WITH A SLIGHTLY DISCOLORED CHALKY TYPE SURFACE THAT KEEPS MOISTURE FROM THE CIGARS AND HAS PROBABLY DISCOLORED FROM THE FUMES OF THE TOBACCO OF THE CIGARS. THE BASE IS LINED WITH A WHITE GLASS ON THE FOUR SIDES AND ON THE BOTTOM AND THIS LINING IS IN EXCELLENT, UNDAMAGED CONDITION. THE BOX/CASE HAS A NICE BRASS LOCKING MECHANISM WITH A BRASS COVERED KEY HOLE AND COMES WITH ITS ORIGINAL KEY. THIS NICE HUMIDOR IS IN VERY GOOD ESTATE CONDITION AND IN APPROPRIATE CONDITION TO BE USED TO STORE CIGARS. THERE IS AN AGE/STRESS CRACK THAT EXTENDS ACROSS THE LENGTH OF THE TOP WHICH IS OFTEN FOUND ON 19th CENTURY BOXES REGARDLESS OF THE TYPE WOOD USED IN CONSTRUCTION. THERE IS ALSO A SLIGHT SEPARATION IN THE SEAM WHERE THE WOOD JUST BELOW THE TOP OF THE BOX. THERE ARE A COUPLE OF FAINT SURFACE SCRATCHES AND MINOR DINGS IN THE WOOD FROM NORMAL WEAR AND A VERY SLIGHT NICK ON THE BOTTOM OF ONE BACK CORNER. THESE MINOR FLAWS ARE MENTIONED FOR ACCURACY AND NONE DETRACT AT ALL FROM THE USEFULNESS OR THE BEAUTY OF THIS NICE CASE. The humidor is in very good used condition with no chips, cracks or repairs as is the white glass inside lining. Unfortunately I’m unsure what the small canisters are for or if any are missing from the box. 2 come with the box as shown. The extra cigar box also comes with the item as shown Churchills – Fabrica de Tabcos de H. The box itself measures 8 7/8″ long x 11 1/2″ wide x 4 tall.
