Vintage Early 20th C Art Deco Metal Cigar Tobacco Humidor Box

This is a vintage Art Deco metal cigar or tobacco humidor. I would estimate it dates circa 1930s. It measures 6 1/4 inches tall (15.9 cm). The lid is 5 inches wide in each direction and the base is 4 7/8 inches wide in each direction (12.7 cm, 12.4 cm). I originally thought this was made of aluminum, but it is steel, as a magnet sticks to it. I believe the interior is cedar wood. The interior of the lid is a thin piece of cork. I’m fairly certain you will have to change the material inside the round humidifier inside the lid. There are scattered scratches and scuffs marks to the finish. This is very noticeable just below the tab on the lid in the front. There is also a small scratched up area in the back of the lid on the left side and some type of thin substance on the right side. When looking at the humidor from the front, the lid stays a little higher on the left side about 1/16 inch. You can push it down, but it pops up again. It is missing one of the four small pieces of velvet on the bottom. I must say, I have never seen one quite like this before. It weighs 1 lb. Large antique cigar humidor. Germany, early 1900’s, made of wood. Height : 17.5 in. Width : 10.5 in. Depth : 6.5 in. My name is Greg, I’m a French guy who had business in Charlotte NC for 3 years. Unfortunately, I had to move back to France because of a slow activity. I fell in love with the US, particulary Charlotte! So now my only goal is to return to Charlotte, and for that I want to export French furnitures and antiques there! This idea came because of my love for wood and history. It is a great area to find valuable furnitures and smalls because of the proximity of wealthy ski resorts like Megève and Chamonix Mont-Blanc. It is also close to Geneva (switzerland), about 45minutes by car. The Geneva area is one of the richest in Europe due to finance and whatchmaking. Italy’s not to far as well, 40 minutes. Early Abalone Shell Inlaid French CIGAR (Cigares) Humidor Box Birdseye Maple

This is a fine early French cigar humidor box adorned with carved and decorated abalone shell throughout. The box itself is constructed of Birdseye or Curly Maple over white pine – the escutcheon plate is a hand- cut piece of shell – top is adorned with shells of carved flowers and leaves with the outer edges of entire box being adorned with small diamonds of shell inlay. All inlay is complete and the interior still retains its original silver foil liner. Box is hand made and is not a commercially produced box. I would date it to the last quarter of the 19th century, to possibly the first few decades of the 20th century. A nice overall humidor for those who collect – box measures 10 1/4″ by 6″ inches and stands 3 3/4 inches high.
