Antique American sliver plate humidor / snuff box, silver plate on copper with a beautiful gold wash inside the lids, mark of the famous American Silversmith and retailer, Elizur G. Webster & Son, New York, NY, the company was famous for it’s high end antique reproductions, this humidor is done in 18thC Dutch Revival, with an elaborate Dutch Tavern scene in relief, some of the maidens are participating in bawdy behavior, handled with ball feet, the original form was used as a communal snuff box that would have sat on a table for guests to partake, inscribed to the recipient and dated 1922 on the bottom, most of the silver plate is gone but the gold wash inside is quite luminous, condition issues of small dents, scratches, and a crack to the corner of the lid, this would have been a very opulent and expensive item in it’s day, the approximate size is 8 inches long, 3.5 inches wide, and 4.25 inches tall, #5946. Up for sale is a very nice quality antique porcelain tobacco jar. The jar has a very detailed hand painted floral design which is heavily embossed and finished with a sheen glaze. It has a silver-plated top with a removable lid that sits recessed in the base. It is hallmarked on the side and the handle pivots back and forth on its mounts. In nice condition and measures 5 1/2 inches wide by 5 3/4 inches tall without measuring handle. Thank you for visiting “Dusty Treasures ” and please feel free to browse through. About as fine as they get, this large Burr Walnut cigar cabinet is a magnificent quality box beautifully made. Each corner has a carved column with a polished brass base and brass mounts around the columns, all beautifully hand engraved. All of the drawer pulls are again hand-engraved. This cabinet would have come from a very fine house, this type of box was used for entertaining, the top two drawers easily accessed by releasing the top (unlocked) shorter bar. These two drawers would have been placed on the table, you can see that they are finished in burr walnut on all sides, used to serve; the underside reveals Satinwood used to finish. The bottom (locked) drawers are accessed with the working key releasing the long bar which then allows the drawers to be accessed. Various cigars would be stored in these drawers and a variety placed in the top two drawers ready for table service by the Butler. The interior of the drawers is lined in Cedar wood which is what kept cigars fresh; this is not officially a Humidor as these are modern inventions to regulate the humidity within; it is the Cedar lining that did this job well over 100 years ago. Each of the drawers has an adjustable / removable divider to customise the interior’s configuration. The drawers will accommodate a maximum cigar length of 6 1/4. Truly the finest in excellent condition, minor wear commensurate with age. Dating to the late Victorian period. The footprint measures 17 1/2″ x 10 1/2″ x 15 tall.
