Antique Victorian Box re purposed as a Cigar Humidor Circa 1880. Approx Size: 14″ x 9.25″ x 12. Great overall antique condition. Originally a writing slope, it has been re-purposed as cigar humidor and ceder wood lining has been added later to the interior. Original lock and key. There are two filters in the lid to regulate humidity, these will likely need new filters to function. Good large size and a good conversion. Monogram to the inlaid mother of pearl. This estate fresh, un-restored solid cherry wood humidor from the 1880’s measures 9″ x 14″ x 8 1/2 overall and retains original surface on the outside and original zinc interior. One end has a tinsmith made zinc drawer for a damp sponge and all of the exterior is decorated with delicately cut-out and colored pictorial paper decorations of birds, trees, castle, horsemen and flowers. It retains original brass hinges and ceramic knob and is sturdy (dirty) and usable with some gentle cleaning. The wood bottom is a bit soft from years of dripping moisture from the “sponge drawer” and there is significant wear and loss to the applied paper decoration on the lid. Up for sale is a rare antique 19th century handmade V ictorian Folk Art wooden box. The box is made of a wooden base and finished with a lovely polychromed brown finish. It’s embellished with hand sculpted detailing throughout done with a very dimensional approach and features berries and flowers. It has a skeleton key locking mechanism but does not have a key. The box is in nice antique condition and measures 17 inches long by 9 inches wide by 9 1/2 inches tall. It is missing some sculpted pieces and has some cracking and chips as shown in all photos. Beautifully refinished solid walnut cigar humidor. Measures 10 3/4″ long x 7 3/4″ deep x 4 1/4 tall. Inside is 9 3/4″ long x 6 5/8″ deep x 3 1/8 tall. Sides are 3/8 thick and assembled using the splined miter joint. 90º hinges in good working order. Exterior refinished with MinWax Satin Varnish and hand polished to a soft luster with 0000 steel wool and paste wax. Inside bottom and lid are lined with milk glass. Sides are lined with finished mahogany. Blank brass engraving plate on top. All joints are solid. No cracks, scratches or splits in the wood. Please contact before purchasing. Very nice quality hand carved wood humidor box with brass inset monogram M. And tin lining, however there are some condition issues as follows: Crack across the top of the lid; rub mark below the brass monogram; no key for the lock; no chain to hold the lid when open. On the plus side: very nice quality wood; although lid is cracked the frame is not so the box is sturdy, lid fits properly and opens/closes with ease; true antique with age and character – brass inset monogram M. Original tin lining, metal button feet and lock – perhaps you can find a key’ carved panels all around except bottom. The scuffs are light and left as found – these could easily be touched up with finish feeder and look nicer than we are presenting.
