A fabulous and very unusual cigar box or humidor, English made around 1900. The box is silver plated with a wonderful bark design with the glazed lid having a handsome English hunt print with hand painted detail. Unusually this example comes with a working lock and key. The interior of the box is fully lined in Cedar wood which was the way the cigars were kept fresh; a humidor as such is a modern invention. The box was clearly made for a French retailer, the cedar lining signed by the Paris retailer; E. Lenoir, 49, Boulevard des Capucines, Paris ; one of the four’grands boulevards’ of Paris, France, a chain of roads running east-west that includes the boulevard de la Madeleine, the boulevard des Capucines, the boulevard des Italiens and the boulevard Montmartre. Up for sale is a very nice quality antique porcelain tobacco jar. The jar has a very detailed hand painted floral design which is heavily embossed and finished with a sheen glaze. It has a silver-plated top with a removable lid that sits recessed in the base. It is hallmarked on the side and the handle pivots back and forth on its mounts. In nice condition and measures 5 1/2 inches wide by 5 3/4 inches tall without measuring handle. Thank you for visiting “Dusty Treasures ” and please feel free to browse through. Fully restored and repurposed antique solid tiger oak cigar humidor lined royal blue felt. Blank engraving plate and working lock (no key). Takes an open square key not included. Outside bottom is covered in a dark green felt. Edges on lid are rounded over. Box measures 11 1/2″ long x 7 3/4″ deep x 4 5/8 tall. Inside is 10 1/2″ long x 6 7/8″ deep x approximately 4 tall. Constructed of 1/2 thick oak and uses a splined miter joint for strength and appearance. Box was cleaned and refinished with Min Wax Satin varnish and hand-polished with 0000 steel wool and paste-wax for a soft luster. 90º hinges hold lid open. About as fine as they get, this large Burr Walnut cigar cabinet is a magnificent quality box beautifully made. Each corner has a carved column with a polished brass base and brass mounts around the columns, all beautifully hand engraved. All of the drawer pulls are again hand-engraved. This cabinet would have come from a very fine house, this type of box was used for entertaining, the top two drawers easily accessed by releasing the top (unlocked) shorter bar. These two drawers would have been placed on the table, you can see that they are finished in burr walnut on all sides, used to serve; the underside reveals Satinwood used to finish. The bottom (locked) drawers are accessed with the working key releasing the long bar which then allows the drawers to be accessed. Various cigars would be stored in these drawers and a variety placed in the top two drawers ready for table service by the Butler. The interior of the drawers is lined in Cedar wood which is what kept cigars fresh; this is not officially a Humidor as these are modern inventions to regulate the humidity within; it is the Cedar lining that did this job well over 100 years ago. Each of the drawers has an adjustable / removable divider to customise the interior’s configuration. The drawers will accommodate a maximum cigar length of 6 1/4. Truly the finest in excellent condition, minor wear commensurate with age. Dating to the late Victorian period. The footprint measures 17 1/2″ x 10 1/2″ x 15 tall. Fully restored and repurposed antique solid tiger oak cigar humidor lined royal blue felt. Blank engraving plate and working lock (no key). Takes an open square key not included. Outside bottom is covered in a dark green felt. Edges on lid are rounded over. Box measures 11 1/2″ long x 7 3/4″ deep x 4 5/8 tall. Inside is 10 1/2″ long x 6 7/8″ deep x approximately 4 tall. Constructed of 1/2 thick oak and uses a splined miter joint for strength and appearance. Box was cleaned and refinished with Min Wax Satin varnish and hand-polished with 0000 steel wool and paste-wax for a soft luster. 90º hinges hold lid open. A wonderful find antique french ebonised wood with bur wall nut 6 mechanical opening doors with guilt metal outer decoration and inner triple cigar holder behind each door a great collectors item great gift and would be a pleasure to use too. It does need work i like it as it is as a decorators item but restored would be amazing 1 of the pouter door decorations is missing there are 3 missing / damaged internal fittings (moved around would leave 1 door with no fittings and 1 with just the base cup). The ebonised wood base has had a repair which cleaning away the glue and polishing would make a huge difference. I hope all this information helps. And would love if some one was to restore this.
