Continental antique mechanical box. Birds-eye maple veneer with brass hardware. The inside fittings are leaves and vines of gold tone and black metal. The platform raises as you open the lid. We think this may be a humidor, cigarette holders on the sides with cigars in the middle, as the lining is metallic cloth. Brevete made all kinds of fitted boxes for everything you could think of so we are not sure. The brass tag says Brevete S. Measures 9 inches wide, 5 1/2 deep, and 3 3/4 inches high. Constructed of beautiful Birdseye Maple, Bloodwood trim & Spanish Cedar. 14 length, 10 1/2 inches wide(front to back), 5 inches high. Works perfectly even though it has two flaws, one being a hairline crack that is hardly visible underneath by the feet as seen in photo 8 and the other being inside also hardly visibleyou have to look for it to actually see it! Where the two black discs are as seen in photo 4. A really beautiful hand made well constructed vintage 27 year old cigar humidor that works perfectly as well as being stunningly beautiful! Weighs 8 pounds few ounces, solidly built.

This is a fine early French cigar humidor box adorned with carved and decorated abalone shell throughout. The box itself is constructed of Birdseye or Curly Maple over white pine – the escutcheon plate is a hand- cut piece of shell – top is adorned with shells of carved flowers and leaves with the outer edges of entire box being adorned with small diamonds of shell inlay. All inlay is complete and the interior still retains its original silver foil liner. Box is hand made and is not a commercially produced box. I would date it to the last quarter of the 19th century, to possibly the first few decades of the 20th century. A nice overall humidor for those who collect – box measures 10 1/4″ by 6″ inches and stands 3 3/4 inches high.
