Antique, English Burr Walnut and Brass Cigar Cabinet / Humidor c. 1880

About as fine as they get, this large Burr Walnut cigar cabinet is a magnificent quality box beautifully made. Each corner has a carved column with a polished brass base and brass mounts around the columns, all beautifully hand engraved. All of the drawer pulls are again hand-engraved. This cabinet would have come from a very fine house, this type of box was used for entertaining, the top two drawers easily accessed by releasing the top (unlocked) shorter bar. These two drawers would have been placed on the table, you can see that they are finished in burr walnut on all sides, used to serve; the underside reveals Satinwood used to finish. The bottom (locked) drawers are accessed with the working key releasing the long bar which then allows the drawers to be accessed. Various cigars would be stored in these drawers and a variety placed in the top two drawers ready for table service by the Butler. The interior of the drawers is lined in Cedar wood which is what kept cigars fresh; this is not officially a Humidor as these are modern inventions to regulate the humidity within; it is the Cedar lining that did this job well over 100 years ago. Each of the drawers has an adjustable / removable divider to customise the interior’s configuration. The drawers will accommodate a maximum cigar length of 6 1/4. Truly the finest in excellent condition, minor wear commensurate with age. Dating to the late Victorian period. The footprint measures 17 1/2″ x 10 1/2″ x 15 tall. A wonderful find antique french ebonised wood with bur wall nut 6 mechanical opening doors with guilt metal outer decoration and inner triple cigar holder behind each door a great collectors item great gift and would be a pleasure to use too. It does need work i like it as it is as a decorators item but restored would be amazing 1 of the pouter door decorations is missing there are 3 missing / damaged internal fittings (moved around would leave 1 door with no fittings and 1 with just the base cup). The ebonised wood base has had a repair which cleaning away the glue and polishing would make a huge difference. I hope all this information helps. And would love if some one was to restore this. RARE Rockwell Kent Brass Cigar Box, Art Deco Engraved Lady by A G Spaulding

1928 RARE Rockwell Kent Sally Art Deco Cigar Box. The outside of the box is brass and the inside is lined with wood. The image on the front is attributed ti Rockwell Kent, a famous artist, print maker and writer, 1882 1971. The image depicts Sally (Sally Kent Gorton) his wife and widow. The image was designed in 1928 for an A. Spalding & Brothers magazine advertisement. Epicts Sally (Sally Kent Gorton) his wife and widow. There are very few of this particular box available. Rockwell Kent had the image etched in the lids of some brass boxes and gave them out as gifts to friends and business associates. This particular box has been well cared for. The inside of the is clean and in very good condition. The brass on the outside has developed a nice patina and has other signs of normal age. The lid is also still very well attached with a good working hinge. It is about 2 5/8 inches by 5.5 inches by 7 1/8 inches. The box is marked A.
