Rare Rockwell Kent’Sally’ Art Deco Cigar Box. 1928 rare Rockwell Kent’Sally’ Art Deco cigar Box. The image on the lid of the box is attributed to Rockwell Kent, a famous early 20th c. The image depicts Sally Kent Gorton his wife and widow. The image was designed in 1928 for an A. Spalding & Brothers (men’s only store – 520 Fifth Avenue, NY) magazine advertisement. There are very few of this particular box available. Rockwell Kent had the image etched in the lids of some brass boxes, made by Chase Brass and Copper Company and gave them out as gifts to friends and business associates. This particular box has been well cared for. The inside of the is clean and in very good condition and I guess re-felted. The brass on the outside has developed a nice patina and has other signs of normal age. The box is marked A. Spalding & Bros on the front rim and EPCO on the back rim E. Is The East Prospect Cigar Company, Pennsylvania. Approximate dimensions: 18cm wide x 14cm deep x6.5 cm high. Collection/couriers always welcome from PE14 9PF, however we do not arrange the courier service but can recommend someone. Please do not use myHermes or similar – these are for easily wrapped parcels – not larger bits of furniture or items marked as collection only. By courier we mean a man with a van! Up for sale is a high quality antique handmade mahogany cigar humidor box. It’s made out of a high glossed mahogany wood and is a large humidor measuring 12 3/4 inches long by 9 inches tall by 9 inches wide. The box’s lid opens on brass hinges and has a brass key lock on the face. It also has a drawer underneath with a brass finger hole handle which actually locks closed when the lid shuts with a hidden mechanism. The lid and drawer are lined with milk glass bottoms along with under the lid. It’s in great condition but the box is missing the key. Up for sale is an extremely high quality vintage handmade Arts and Crafts cigar box. It’s made out of a hand carved mahogany base and completely embellished with ornate Arts and Crafts detailing throughout. The box has very thick forged steel sides with copper appliqués and hardware all held with exquisite brass riveting. It has elaborate pivoting handles on each side made of brass and copper mounts and a hinged lock on the face. The box opens on a hinge and is lined with a thick stainless steel lining. It’s in exquisite condition and is extremely heavy. Measures 13 inches long by 8 1/2 inches wide by 5 7/8 inches tall. It may have has a removable shelf inside. The lid shows a handsome plaque (probably bronze) showing a hunter aiming his gun, surrounded by a laurel wreath, and is in high relief. Inside of lid shows a label from the maker or retailer. Antique Victorian Oak & Brass Cigarette & Cigar box or humidor, complete with working lock and key. Please note to operate, the lock needs to be held open using the key (unlocked) before the lids are replaced (pushed down against the spring loaded mechanism) before releasing the key to lock the lids in place. They cannot be pushed shut without doing this. To unlock simply turn the key and both lids will pop up by a small amount. This is a very old and much loved piece, there have been repairs and modifications over it’s long life which include a repair/replacement to one lids latch (right hand side) and a piece of wood cut in under the left hand side of the lock body as well as some small patches of wood stain or paint. These are all done with charm and add to the story of this functional but beautiful addition to anyones collection. A small drawer with a brass handle has also been added at some point to the front, to store matches perhaps? Making this a unique item. There are two wooden cedar? Lined compartments and it has a brass carry handle, two engraved brass plaques on the lids read cigarettes and cigars. The corner decorations are plated brass, as are the hinges, and there is a brass escutcheon to the lock. Size is 9 and 1/2 inches wide x 6 and 3/16 inches deep x 4 inches in height. This listing is for an EPCO A. Spalding & Bros Rockwell Kent Art Deco Brass Etched Cigar Box from the 1920s. A fairly rare object displaying one of Kent’s finest graphic images. Brass body with intaglio etched lid; wood lining. The image depicts “Sally”, Kent’s wife. Designed in 1928 for A. 520 Fifth Avenue, and executed by Chase Brass. Spalding & Bros” on front rim and “EPCO on back rim. Is The East Prospect Cigar Company, Pennsylvania. Measures approximately 7-1/8″W x 5-1/2″D x 2H. Good overall vintage condition with slight toning of original finish very typical for this type of ware. Moderate wear and tear, but still has good years left.
