This Tobacco Box has excellent style; it features a classic design, wonderful solid oak construction, and a beautiful dark oak finish on the wood. This Humidor includes the original key. With its brilliant design, this Cigar Box would make a fantastic gift for any collector of antique tobacciana or cigar boxes in general. I offer for sale a fabulous 19th century (1800’s) large antique Victorian to Edwardian era French Black Forest 15 cigar chest or cabinet, a beautiful decorative box with ornate carvings two large bird or Curlew figural top, and also floral carvings on each side including the back. This case has a complete interior consisting of 7 drawers or trays plus another drawer beneath the doors to hold cigar smoking accessories. All of the original interior cigar trays remain with the chest and will hold a total of 63 cigars, as each wooden shelf has recesses for 9 cigars. No breaks, warps or missing pieces. Each shelf slides smoothly in and out of the grooved slot construction of the interior. A beautiful piece of furniture where ever you decide to display it. Antique Hand Carved Black Forest 13 Cigar Chest, Box, Server – 4 Trays for 32 Cigars. All items and photos are the express property of Antiques & Uncommon Treasure. We can never keep this style cigar serving chest in inventory for long, theyre always so popular and especially this time of year. This is a fine 19th c. Victorian to early Edwardian era Black Forest hand carved chest with the original four sliding shelves or trays, ready to serve up 32 cigars. It is not a humidor, but is a chest that would have been brought out after dinner when the ladies retired to another room and the gentlemen stayed at table or den for a cigar and mens talk. Served with price, this one is the style that would have been found in any well-pointed home or lodge. The carving definitely Black Forest, with vines, foliage & edelweiss carved into the front and side panels, a raised or applied group of foliage & edelweiss flowers centered on the lid. Rare to find these anymore that dont have some restorations or breaks (with a nod to the age/drying splits visible in the lid here). I see only a few other minor flaws to show for its age. A beautiful lighter finish or patina to the old wood. Weve taken the time to clean and lightly wax it, as with all our beautiful old Black Forest carved items, and youll be thrilled to put it to use, or just to display. Very good condition for age and type, with four original sliding trays still inside. Each tray holds eight cigars (the center groove is shorter due to the pulls or knobs but could be used if you so wish for slightly shorter cigars) and the total is 32+ cigars. Double-hinged and with the original lock and working key, this is truly a tantalus, though not a humidor as there is no soaker, etc.. It is for service, not to keep cigars moist. There are also a few old bug or worm holes in the wood, nothing active but they are there (mostly along the lower part of the front panel). It does have a few flaws but most to after all these years and, as you can see, its lost little of its visual and decorative appeal. Working lock complete with key. Measurements on the photos. Gorgeous cigar tantalus from Napoleon III era c. 1850-70 or mid-Victorian era. This French made chest is fitted with cigar-mount pull-out shelves enough to hold 36 full-sized cigars. Beautifully crafted, but not in pristine condition at this time, it’s a bargain and really does present nicely in spite of a few flaws. I’ve marked those with “x” on our photos for your review. The photographer shows it with 2 keys inside, but just one will fit and only one key will be sent out with the box. The top and front both hinge up and down to open for use. Measurements noted on the photos. Good condition for age and type. The box has a beautiful boulle worked brass and mother of pearl cartouche, set in accents of black and brown woods. An engraved monogram that looks to me to be “T S” in set therein. The burl walnut veneer is accented by 2 other wood grain veneers on the top of the box, and accented by contrasting stringing. A pencil-edging in wood finished the edging beautifully to that slightly convex lid. There is a little disruption around the escutcheon (key hole) as visible in our images, and there is a section of missing veneer on bottom of one side – marked for your review. Slight imperfections otherwise, signs of age, noted in the photos. There are 3 shelves that have a hairline, or break. All function fine as you see them. This is not a pristine example, but priced accordingly. There is an engraved signature on the lockplate, but I can’t read it. Overall, even with a few flaws, a really beautiful old treasure! Outer skin made of tin with a faux wood finish& inner tin liner all over wood. Great graphics proclaiming “Buck Cigars” “King of the Range”, “Good To Keep Good Cigars Good”. Lock is intact but with no key. The spring in the lock that pops it away from the chest when unlocked still works. Handles are made of brass and can be left flat to the side or straight out to the side. The corners and edges of box trimmed in brass. The side vents both slide open& closed smoothly.
