Rare Antique English Regency Cigar/Cigarette Humidor Box- Double Roll Top

Up for sale is an Antique English Regency Era humidor box. We were informed that this is an extremely rare piece as it has a double roll top with separate locks (key included). The front features brass and pearl inlay. Each side had a lock, allowing the 2 roll tops to slide open and closed. The top has a handle. The box appears to be in overall good condition- some darkening and light scratches, but nothing inconsistent with age. This item comes from an inherited estate of a relative who was in the antiques industry. We ourselves are not experts. Please see all photos for details and feel free to message with any questions. A fabulous and very unusual cigar box or humidor, English made around 1900. The box is silver plated with a wonderful bark design with the glazed lid having a handsome English hunt print with hand painted detail. Unusually this example comes with a working lock and key. The interior of the box is fully lined in Cedar wood which was the way the cigars were kept fresh; a humidor as such is a modern invention. The box was clearly made for a French retailer, the cedar lining signed by the Paris retailer; E. Lenoir, 49, Boulevard des Capucines, Paris ; one of the four’grands boulevards’ of Paris, France, a chain of roads running east-west that includes the boulevard de la Madeleine, the boulevard des Capucines, the boulevard des Italiens and the boulevard Montmartre. Antique, English Burr Walnut and Brass Cigar Cabinet / Humidor c. 1880

About as fine as they get, this large Burr Walnut cigar cabinet is a magnificent quality box beautifully made. Each corner has a carved column with a polished brass base and brass mounts around the columns, all beautifully hand engraved. All of the drawer pulls are again hand-engraved. This cabinet would have come from a very fine house, this type of box was used for entertaining, the top two drawers easily accessed by releasing the top (unlocked) shorter bar. These two drawers would have been placed on the table, you can see that they are finished in burr walnut on all sides, used to serve; the underside reveals Satinwood used to finish. The bottom (locked) drawers are accessed with the working key releasing the long bar which then allows the drawers to be accessed. Various cigars would be stored in these drawers and a variety placed in the top two drawers ready for table service by the Butler. The interior of the drawers is lined in Cedar wood which is what kept cigars fresh; this is not officially a Humidor as these are modern inventions to regulate the humidity within; it is the Cedar lining that did this job well over 100 years ago. Each of the drawers has an adjustable / removable divider to customise the interior’s configuration. The drawers will accommodate a maximum cigar length of 6 1/4. Truly the finest in excellent condition, minor wear commensurate with age. Dating to the late Victorian period. The footprint measures 17 1/2″ x 10 1/2″ x 15 tall. Rare Antique English Oak Novelty Carriage Cigar Box / Humidor Reg. 1904

Rarely found or even seen, this novelty Edwardian cigar box is beautifully executed in solid oak in the form of a horse drawn carriage. The sides are inlaid to emulate the panelling and door, the window made from the original mirrored glass. To either side there are polished brass door handles and removable carriage lamps. The example would have been used to roll down the centre of a large dinner table to serve after dinner cigars; the wheels all in perfect working order. The top of the carriage opens to reveal a cedar lined interior to keep the cigars fresh; often referred to as a humidor, that is in fact a modern invention, it is the cedar lining that did this job over 100 years ago. At the back of the carriage is a locked drawer with working key, which once opened reveals a match compartment, match strike and tray for spent matches and another smaller cedar lined compartment. The drawer is lucky enough to have been stamped with an English design registration number which allows us to date it accurately to 1904, Edwardian in era. Antique handmade English wood silver-plate porcelain tobacco jar humidor box

Up for sale is a wonderful handmade antique English lidded tobacco jar. It hand made from wood and has a sheen finish with silver-plated handle and badge on the face. It also has a matching wooden removable lid. The inside is lined with thick white porcelain bucket and also has a high gloss finish. It measures 6 1/2 inches tall without measuring handle by 5 3/4 inches wide. The piece is in nice condition but has a split where the two pieces of wood were mounted together. Refer to last photo. 4 3/4″ X 4 1/4 X 5″ Tall, with the lid on. A great early piece of English Brown Stoneware. The box is sprigged with a pair of Dolphins on two sides and Venus rising from the sea on the other two. The handle on the lid is a resting Lion. There is no damage, cracks, chips, scratches, etc. The rim decoration appears to be a flowery wreath. The base is plain. No maker is indicated. Antique English Sterling Silver Cigar Box / Humidor 1905

A fabulous chunky double cigar box / humidor. Standing on four original ball feet, the box has two lidded compartments, lined in Cedar wood to keep the contents fresh. These are often referred to as Humidors, this is a modern invention and so isn’t officially a humidor; it is the Cedar wood that did the job. Made from English sterling silver, there are numerous hallmarks to all the components, most rubbed due to the smooth finish of the box. The marks can be made out to be for Birmingham 1905, a true Edwardian example. An impressive piece in excellent condition, minor wear commensurate with age. 10″ x 6″ x 4 1/2 tall to top of handle.
