Antique Black Forest Carved cigar humidor Box With Birds

A SWISS’BLACK FOREST’ FRUITWOOD HUMIDOR. Modelled as a cabinet, the top section surmounted by two carved birds perched on a naturalistic scene with hinged doors with original working brass lock and bolt along with the old original key opening to reveal 6 pull-out trays each for 8 cigars, to hold a total of 48 cigars each in shaped recesses. The bottom section with a single frieze drawer. Finely hand carved, 19th century Swiss artisans, Grand Tour souvenir of that area. The back of the cabinet is plain un carved. Each of the 6 sliding trays are in excellent condition and are 7wide x 4.5 deep. The chest stands a total of 14.5 including the carved birds up top. Please see the photos. Good condition for age and type. Has a number of old small chips/tips missing to the high relief carved flowers around the cabinet – one of the birds beaks has been chipped off and has a number of chips to the leaf around the pair of birds. Beautiful colour, the old patina, with high quality carving and construction. No damage to legs or other aspects of the cabinet. Not a soaking humidifier. Each of the 6 trays will take 8 cigars of up to 12mm diameter. Total un packed weight 2.290kg -5lb US. Total hight 37cm -14.5. Swiss Black Forest Cigar Chest Animalier Fan Tail Pheasants up Top, 46 cigars. All items and photos are the express property of Antiques & Uncommon Treasure. Wonderful late 1800s hand carved Swiss Black Forest cigar chest with hinged lid and swing-away sides, holds 46 cigars. The bottom has a drawer, as well. The old original lock has its key and does work to lock away cigars. A bold big and really beautifully carved pair of fan tail pheasants up top, for a hunt and Animalier theme. The chest is nice-sized and surprisingly will hold a large number of cigars. Measurements noted on the photos. Cigar length for closed casket can be up to 4 1/2″ long, smallish and holes are 5/8″ in diameter or slightly less. Very good to excellent condition for age and type, late 1800s and likely a Grand Tour souvenir. Very nicely preserved carvings, no losses on the birds other than a narrow shaving-like chip to one wing. The box, itself, should have had, or once did have feet. You can see that looking at it from bottom. There is a slight rise to the very far right of the lid, when closed, but you really must be looking directly on to see it. There is a drawer at the base and it has an abbreviated nob, perhaps chipped from original but it is still there and it works. A little looseness at joints but solid and seems just a factor of age. Beautifully carved and a serpentine form carved in a nice way. We’re easy to deal with. You are very important! Our fine inventory is very important. BEAR TOBACCO JAR MUSIC BOX. Black Forest Figural Wood Carved Humidor c. This is an Awesome BEAR TOBACCO JAR MUSIC BOX Black Forest Figural Wood Carved circa 1950. This tobacco jar music box. Is dark brown in color, with some decorative color accents, (photographed in natural light, the photos appear lighter than actual color). Is well modeled in deep relief with very good carving and detail. Depicts a seated bear carved in Black Forest style. Has an expressive face, a mouth with teeth, glass paperweight style eyes, ears straight up. Has a custom top, the head lifts open, and is fitted to the body; the base container, with a brass hinge, is the body of the bear with four outstretched paws; the base is hollowed out as a tobacco jar. Has a Thorens MUSIC BOX built into the base, which is activated by a string attached to the top; when the lid is opened the music box is activated- it plays There is No Place Like Home and Way Down Upon the Swanee River. The music box has been serviced, cleaned and oiled, and it works. Once the lid is closed the two songs stop after being played through. Has a round plinth elevated base with three small rounded feet; the underside has the winder key and access panel to the music box. Tall x 5.5 In. Wide x 6.5 In. The estimated date is circa 1950. The BEAR TOBACCO JAR MUSIC BOX Black Forest is in very good condition. Condition status includes minimal normal wear and rubbing. Overall, this work is sound, having no chips, cracks, or major defects, and having had no apparent repairs or restorations. Please see all photos which are a part of this description. An unusual Antique oak Black Forest cigar humidor, circa 1880 in date. The humidor is constructed in the form of a dog kennel with lift up pitched roof and nailed planked decoration, the entrance features a beautifully carved high relief of a dog in the entrance. Beautifully carved and very well preserved late 1800s to as late as 1915 cigar chest with lift-out tray to hold up to 40 cigars. Floral bouquet carved up top, and all-over adornments details. The original key still works the old lock. We’ve put up lots of photos from all angles, and measurements are noted on the photos. Very good to excellent condition, with a nod to an old repaired crack along one of the lines of perforated top panel of the interior cigar tray. It is strong and barely visible, but we want you to know it is there. A tip of one leaf of the bouquet cartouche is gone, as well (see images). A spectacular 1880s to earliest 1900s hand carved Swiss Black Forest lift-top cigar cabinet, 11.5 wide and with 3 trays, holds 30 large cigars for service. Beautifully carved on all sides, florals and forest look, a monogrammed shield cartouche up top. I know you’re going to ask me the initials. I’m guessing at it, as I can make it be TPC, or HB, either one. You’ll have to see what you make of it. Very good to excellent condition for age and type. The chest is raised on bun feet, and there really isn’t any warp, cracks, hairlines. It would have initially had 6 trays, but it looks balanced with the 3 excellent ones that remain with it. They’re all carved nicely, too. One thing to note is that the actual lock mechanism is missing. The pin half of the lock plate is there, and keyhole, but the lock has been removed. Doesn’t hurt the look any, as you have to go searching under the fold-back lid to see it’s missing. Photos show it from all sides, and it’s in very fine shape throughout. As you can see, it’s in a medium light wood, and it shows off its serpentine edging and bas relief carvings very nicely. All measurements noted on the photos. We’re easy to deal with. Vintage SWISS Black Forest Chalet CIGAR HUMIDOR Cottage House BOX Hand Carved. This piece is VERY COOL and truly “ONE OF A KIND”.. ! It has two compartments under the roof and a built in lighter inside the chimney. It resembles an old traditional Black Forest Chalet from Switzerland. Some of the key features to identify are the Swiss wooden clogs outside the front door and the large overhanging eaves on the roof, typically seen on cottages in the Black Forest mountain range of the Alps. This beautiful area is well renowned for its enchanting Spas and masterful wood work that led to the invention of the world famous German Cuckoo Clocks. N the inside lid, there is a small painting of the Jesuit Church in Lucerne, Switzerland. On top, the chimney flips open a built in lighter. You may look closely and notice all the tiny details that are quite fascinating and realistic. The craftsmanship and attention to detail is evident in this piece. 12″x 10″x 9. The red paint on the roof is slightly separating, giving it a “cracked” appearance (not significant)… This is most likely due to the paint containing strong solvents… One window shudder is missing on one side window…. Antique, German, Black Forest, carved wooden cigar cabinet. The lid & front panels open up to reveal pierced shelves, which can hold up to 34 cigars. The double shelves will hold them straight. The cabinet has 3 sections to the front for matches / accessories. On the lid & front panels is carved a 4 petal flower & leaves. It has 4 bun feet (although 1 is a replacement & slightly different shape & is slightly shorter than the other 3). Good antique condition: Nice patina. Minimal loss to the relief work. There is a split in the wood at one corner that has been glued. The lock has been removed. Size: 9″ wide x 8.5″ tall x 7 deep. Would make a wonderful gift / office decor / gentleman’s accessory! A 19th century smoker’s caddy with huge and beautifully carved German Shepherd dog hinged to open for tobacco or cigar storage inside hollowed out pot. An angled server for matches and a brass cup for spent matches and ashes or cigar clippings. This one is superb! Yes, tip of one ear has been chipped ages ago, could be restored quite easily. No other flaws to note. Glass eyes bring him alive, don’t they? He’s chained, and rests one front foot above the squared off old log that comprises the 11 wide front piece, with a paw showing along bottom, too. Very good to excellent condition for age and type. That he’s got one nipped ear only is a bit of a miracle after so long a time. Obviously well cared for and cherished. The brass pot shows some old evidence of ash. He’s definitely served well. The interior of the tobacco compartment is clear, no residue, no odors. I’ve noted maximum depth on the photos, and that it is 8″ tall as it sits, and 11″ wide. Yes, some very old and inactive (treated) woodworm holes here or there. Nothing spongy or ruined about him. Just that Old European charm of age. You will LOVE this one! We’re easy to deal with.
