Antique Heintz 4095 Sterling Silver Bronze Humidor Cigar Box w Rare Verde Patina Finish. Heintz Art Metal Shop, or AMHS engraving on bottom, along with August 27, 1912 date. A fine example of American Mission Arts & Crafts movement. The box is in great vintage preowned unaltered original condition. This listing is for a hard-to-find Arts & Crafts/Mission Period tobacco humidor with Sterling Silver overlay made by the Heintz Art Metal Shop, c. This nice tobacco humidor is extremely attractive with its green verde mottled finish and original patina. The silver will polish nicely if you wish to polish. This great humidor is in excellent condition with no noted flaws or damage other than the original patina (unpolished) silver. Also stamped for the retailer and for item number. The patent date refers to the date the patent was issued for the process of applying sterling silver overlay on bronze without the use of solder. The Heinze Art Metal Shop of Buffalo NY began using this process in 1911 before the patent was issued and the company ceased operation in February, 1930. Will be carefully packaged and Insured. The box has some size as it measures 6 1/4″ wide by 2 1/2″ tall and 3 13/16 deep to the outside rivets on the top of the box. The cigar box displays a rectangular shape and has a wonderful deep mottled and frothy green or frog skin patina that Heintz made famous. This is the favored patina with the Heintz collectors. This box has a cedar liner in the bottom and a slot on each side of the top lid in which I believe a screen that held moisture was kept. You rarely find these with the screens. The top of the box has a silver overlay pattern in an art nouveau motif along its border. It is also monogrammed in silver with the initials E. This box is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no major dents or dings. The lid opens and closes with ease. It is only lightly sprung on the front left but closes 95% of the way. The patina is excellent and only shows minors signs of wear. The piece is signed on the underside bottom with the impressed post patent diamond mark with the number 2649 also impressed just above. Below the diamond mark it is also impressed Sterling on Bronze pat. 27.12″ There is also a number “64 impressed I believe this to be the shape of the box number. These same number appears in the top right hand corner of the lid when opened. It is actually upside down on the lid. There is also a number 7F40 lightly scratched upside down under the number 64. The humidor is quite large as it measures 7 3/8″ wide by 5 3/4″ deep and 4 5/8 tall to the top of the handle. This humidor has a wonderful hand hammered texture on copper with a splendid applied hand hammered decorative handle. The hand hammering is plentiful and wonderfully done. The patina is as found original condition and considered quite good. You can see some wear with the copper peeking through especially on the underside of the box. The craftsman brown patina with darker brown highlights brings the warmth to this piece. The handle is mounted to the top cover and is held in place with faceted rivets. There is a wooden box that fits inside the hammered copper humidor box to hold the cigars or tobacco and keep it off the metal. There is also a lid that fits perfectly down inside the box with a round handle. I believe this to be a later addition. This humidor is considered to be in very good to excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips or dents to the metal. Some areas of patina are weaker than others but it is original as found. The inside shows hardly any patina wear. The humidor is signed with the “The-Craftsman-Workshops-Gustav-Stickley” impressed mark along with the “ALS IK KAN” symbol impressed mark.
