This unusual, Rochard, Limoges box is a brown’wooden’ cigar humidor with “Fine Cigars” in gold script, a lit cigar, and 22KT gold pin stripe and dark brown borders. A tobacco leaf is the clasp, and the’cedar’ lined interior has a hygrometer/thermometer and four cigars with gold and black bans, and a removable, fifth one that is 2 long. The humidor is 1.5 by 2.5. ” with a height of 1.4″. On the bottom is: Peint Main – Rochard – Limoges France. No makers mark but most-certainly by a jeweler in Mexico. Copper, stainless steel, brass and polished abalone shell. For playing cards or cigarette humidor (wood lined). Measures about 5 1/2″ by 4 1/2″ and stands 1 1/4 tall. Minor age flaws but overall wonderful condition (see pics). The lovely mother Pug is very animated chewing on a bone on top of the lid with another bone on the ground. The entire piece is made of antique terracotta made to look like a wood doghouse. The three adorable puppies have the cutest expressions and are drinking out of a trough. Measurements are 4 inches tall by 2 3/4 inches deep by 3 1/4 inches wide. It is marked “DEPOSE” in impressed letters on the lid underside which is French for hand made so it is of French origin. There is paint wear mostly on the back of the mother which is commensurate with use as this is where your hand touches to remove the cover. The puppy on the left is missing its tail and there are two chips. One on the underside of the lid which doesn’t show on display and the second on the back edge. Please see all photos. THIS JAR HAS A CUT GLASS BODY WITH A STERLING LID THAT HAS AN APPLIED FIGURAL ENAMELED SCENE WITH A PIPE, LIT SMOKING CIGAR, MATCHES AND A MATCH STRIKER. I KNOW THIS PIECE IS DURGIN BECAUSE ABOUT 15 YEARS AGO I HAD ANOTHER ONE EXACTLY LIKE IT WITH A DIFFERENT ENAMELED SMOKING SCENE PLAQUE. THE STERLING LID ON THAT ONE HAD A MONOGRAM WITH A DATE OF 1895. IT IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH NO DAMAGE. THE STERLING LID HAS A SUBSTANTIAL WEIGHT OF 4.7 TROY OUNCES.
