This extraordinary hand-crafted 19th century sheet brass box in the Moorish gothic style appears to combine tobacco and betel storage and measures4″ tall (5 1/2″ with bail handle) x 8″ x 5″ overall. The decoration features chased openwork sheet brass appliques and the hardware is handmade. Inside the lift-out tray has two covered compartment with pierced hinged lids and the lid appears designed to hold thin wood panels for moisture protection. The box has its lock intact (no key) and the hinges work nicely. You will note scattered expected dings and dents and old polish residue in the details.
