Up for sale is a high quality antique 19th century handmade wooden cigar humidor box. It’s made out of a rich colored mahogany with ornate open worked plated metal corners and has acquired a lovely sheen patina from age. The lid opens on dual hinges and is lined with an early traditional tin humidor lining that has wings in the back for a humidor stone. It’s in nice antique condition and measures 10 inches long by 6 3/4 inches wide by 4 1/2 inches tall. The box has a square key entry but is missing the original key. SUPERB and RARE large antique Victorian Edwardian Mahogany Humidor / Cigar Box

SUPERB large ANTIQUE Mahogany CIGAR humidor/box. Hi and welcome to my listing for this wonderful antique Edwardian cigar box. Pieces like this’ in this condition are becoming increasingly hard to find and it is a lovely example. The box is made from Mahogany. It has the word Cigar in white metal attached to the top of the lid and four plaques around the edge of the lid (note – the plaques have no inscriptions so the new owner could get these engraved if they so wished). There is also a lock (sadly no key). The box measures (externally) 11 inches (280 mm) long X 7 inches (180 mm) wide and stands 4.25 inches (110 mm) high. Internally the box has a sectional, non-removable lining with three possible positions for the dividing piece. The total internal length is 9 inches (228 mm), width 5 inches (125 mm) with the depth being about 2.5 inches (60 mm). The dividing strip may be placed in the middle or 3.25 inches (80 mm) in from either end which would give just over 5.5 inches (142 mm) for the larger section. I’d say the box is in very good/excellent condition for it’s age – the bottom of the box is not finished off as well as the main body or internal section so perhaps there was a felt base on the piece originally (there is a small remnant of some covering). Overall a superb original example would look great on a desk or study. Very stylish and usable and could even be used as a presentation piece with the plaques around the lid. Antique Victorian Smoker’s Box. Cigar Tobacco box humidor. Solid Oak box with Ornate Brass filigree “Cigar” and corner embellishments. Ornate tin metal lined interior. The hinges are both marked with. Pat’D July 1st, 1890. (does not mean that was date made, just patent approved). Believe it to be late 1800s/ early 1900s. Working lock, no key. Antique Victorian Oak & Brass Cigarette & Cigar box or humidor, complete with working lock and key. Please note to operate, the lock needs to be held open using the key (unlocked) before the lids are replaced (pushed down against the spring loaded mechanism) before releasing the key to lock the lids in place. They cannot be pushed shut without doing this. To unlock simply turn the key and both lids will pop up by a small amount. This is a very old and much loved piece, there have been repairs and modifications over it’s long life which include a repair/replacement to one lids latch (right hand side) and a piece of wood cut in under the left hand side of the lock body as well as some small patches of wood stain or paint. These are all done with charm and add to the story of this functional but beautiful addition to anyones collection. A small drawer with a brass handle has also been added at some point to the front, to store matches perhaps? Making this a unique item. There are two wooden cedar? Lined compartments and it has a brass carry handle, two engraved brass plaques on the lids read cigarettes and cigars. The corner decorations are plated brass, as are the hinges, and there is a brass escutcheon to the lock. Size is 9 and 1/2 inches wide x 6 and 3/16 inches deep x 4 inches in height. Gorgeous cigar tantalus from Napoleon III era c. 1850-70 or mid-Victorian era. This French made chest is fitted with cigar-mount pull-out shelves enough to hold 36 full-sized cigars. Beautifully crafted, but not in pristine condition at this time, it’s a bargain and really does present nicely in spite of a few flaws. I’ve marked those with “x” on our photos for your review. The photographer shows it with 2 keys inside, but just one will fit and only one key will be sent out with the box. The top and front both hinge up and down to open for use. Measurements noted on the photos. Good condition for age and type. The box has a beautiful boulle worked brass and mother of pearl cartouche, set in accents of black and brown woods. An engraved monogram that looks to me to be “T S” in set therein. The burl walnut veneer is accented by 2 other wood grain veneers on the top of the box, and accented by contrasting stringing. A pencil-edging in wood finished the edging beautifully to that slightly convex lid. There is a little disruption around the escutcheon (key hole) as visible in our images, and there is a section of missing veneer on bottom of one side – marked for your review. Slight imperfections otherwise, signs of age, noted in the photos. There are 3 shelves that have a hairline, or break. All function fine as you see them. This is not a pristine example, but priced accordingly. There is an engraved signature on the lockplate, but I can’t read it. Overall, even with a few flaws, a really beautiful old treasure! Handsome Antique Humidor in need of minor restoration. Veneered in Walnut with cross banding and stringing. Fitted with three drawers with brass Campaign type handle fittings. It needs a new lock or the existing one mending, there is a key with it which currently doesn’t work, however once a steel pin is replaced in the key hole I suspect it might. The drawers work however the linings have been replaced. There is a bit of Satin wood stringing missing from the top. See photos for detail.
