Antique Wilhelm Schiller Terra Cotta Tobacco Box Greyhound Lid Face Match Holder

This is a wonderful antique 19th century painted terra cotta tobacco box made by Wilhelm Schiller & Son of Bavaria. It has been painted to resemble bronze, with lines of gold beading as accents. The top of the lid has a figural greyhound and the ends of the box have figural faces with crowns that were to hold matches. There are strikes below the heads. There are pipes and smoking paraphernalia in relief on both sides. The piece bears the WS&S mark on the bottom for Wilhelm Schiller & Son. It measures 6 1/2″ tall to the top of the greyhounds head, 7 3/4″ across and 4 3/4 deep. There are some chips that have been filled in to match the color around the inside edge and a filled in chip on one end above the face. Nothing noticeable at all. Overall it displays very well, with quite an impressive look. You will be pleased. Quality antique walnut burr wood humidor table top cabinet / box. Featuring brass flush military handles to the side of the cabinet and to each dovetailed drawers lined with cedar. The walnut has a wonderful grain with a lovely patina. There are marks, knocks, signs of wear/use all adding to it’s look. There are some losses to the ebony edging. The right door has been repaired at some point. Please note the item does not come with a key and the lock looks damaged, however the door stays closed. Overall a rare cabinet in good antique condition. Please note the following. In doing my research, I came across the initials AD stamped on one of the brass plates(see last pic). I was given information on where to find it. Has brass handles on each side. Milk Glass inside does have a small crack(see last pic). Has some wear on outside normal for its age. I believe this to be dated early 1900s. Beautiful piece, DO NOT MISS OUT! Simple rectangular design with Art Deco style sterling silver decoration to box lid. 1.5″h x 6.25″l x 3.75w. In fair antique condition, with just general surface wear commensurate with age, such as the lovely green patina and oxidation to bronze, tarnish to the sterling, a slight bend to one corner of the box lid, and light surface scratches all over – see pictures.
