Superb early-20th Century Art Deco solid silver stylish mechanised cigar and cigarette box, sarcophagus-shaped, engine turned and applied with a fine acanthus leaf boarders, sides mounted with realistically modelled lion masks with bars in mouth acting as turn handles to open the four compartments of a wood lined interior. The front bearing the French badge of the FAFL (Free French Air Force) with the Cross of Lorraine. Engraved in French along the base: “Les Forces Aériennes Françaises de Grande Bretagne à leur chef le Colonel Pierre Coustey, Londres 5.3.1946 ” – “The French Air Forces of Great Britain to their leader Colonel Pierre Coustey, London 5.3.1946″. Pierre Coustey (Aviation Ace), promoted to Chief of Staff of the Free French Air Force at the headquarters based in London for 363 days, from April 1942 to March 1943. Hallmarked with English silver marks (925 standard), London, year 1927 (m), Maker DBH (Dyas Beverley Hampton), Patent Pending.
